I peered out the window as the car started its journey to Nevermore, it was a rainy day. Dreary in fact, I quite enjoyed the rain, the cloudy skies and thunder. Interestingly enough when lighting struck, I was able to feel it, perhaps it had something to do with my gift. Soon enough the car approached the iron gates, with a header of" Nevermore." Looking ahead I noticed a woman with an umbrella standing on the steps to the entrance of the school. She was quite a tall woman, dressed in all white.

The car came to a stop and I grabbed my bags.

"Thank you," I said to the driver, he merely nodded, I closed the door and he drove off.

"Welcome to Nevermore, I am Principal Weems," the tall blonde woman said as she turned around.

"Whitmore, Dahlia Whitmore," I said, extending my hand to my new principal with a tight lipped smile.

"Pleasure," she said, returning the handshake firmly with an obviously fake smile plastered on her face. "Why don't I show you to your room,"

I nodded and followed her within the school.

She spoke the whole time, explaining the history of the school and extracurriculars offered and blah blah blah, god she really was trying to sell this place. As we approached my dorm hall, Lenore Hall, she said it's named after a poem their alumni Edgar Allen Poe wrote, then she began to explain its history. I decided to tune her out and observe my surroundings. However, my attention was soon drawn away as two people came into my peripheral view from across the hall arguing. I couldn't make out what they were saying, but it seemed heated. It was a dark skinned girl with an almost buzzed head and a tall pale boy with long light brown hair. Apparently their argument was escalating as the girl began shouting. This drew me and Principal Weems to look directly over at their commotion.

"I'm sorry, I must go intervene, your facility dorm head should be in their office, they can finish showing you to your room," she said apologetically as she walked over to the two students.

My eyes followed her as she walked towards the couple. I heard her shout "Mr. Thorpe, Miss. Barclay, What is the meaning of this?" As I attempted to ease the drop I felt another pair of eyes were already on me, his. I averted my eyes and began up the stairs to the faculty members office. I found it quickly and knocked.

"Miss Whitlock, I presume?" she said with a smile reaching out her hand.

"Yes, and you are?" I said returning the handshake.

"Oh, I'm sorry, scatterbrained, I'm Professor Baldwin," she said with a kind smile, "I'll escort you to your room, follow me,"

We left her office and ascended the stairs till we approached a room.

"Principal Weems has informed me of your, history and so you will have a solo room, for safety," Prof. Baldwin said as she unlocked the door.

She gave me the key and informed me of the dorm rules and then said that a student representative would be stopping by sometime within the hour to take me to the registrar's office to grab my uniform and schedule, then went on her way leaving the door ajar.

I took off my jacket  and gloves then began to unpack and looked around at my new room. It was quite large surprisingly, looked like it used to be a storage space, it had a balcony overlooking what looks like a courtyard. I stepped onto it, it had stopped raining, pity.

Just as Weems said in about 45 minutes there was a knock at my door, before I could even stop what I was doing the person entered and started speaking.

"Hi Dahlia, I'm Enid! I'm here to give you a Nevermore welcome!," she said enthusiastically walking over to me reaching in for a hug.

I backed away quickly.

"Oh, sorry, not a hugger I take?" Enid say putting her arms down backing away.

I hastily reached for my gloves and put them before she could see my scars and Enid looked confused, "Sorry, you just caught me off guard."

"Oh okay, well anyways let's go get your uniform and schedule," she said with a furrowed brow and gestured out the room and I followed.

She walked us through the quad and told me about Nevermore's cliques, She mentioned stoners, fangs and furs.

"I'm a fur, a werewolf. What about you?" Enid asked.

"I'm not entirely sure." I said my brow slightly furrowed as I stared at the quads fountain feeling her gaze.

"Interesting, I heard you have visions like a seer " she said looking towards Dahlia.

"Yeah I do have visions, some other stuff too so, a bit of a mystery." I said trying to see if she'd drop it.

She obviously got the hit and moved on with the conversation, "I'm sure you'll figure it out and find a place here," she said with an encouraging smile, "Oh and theres the Scales, AKA Sirens, yikes, theres one now," she said rolling her eyes gesturing towards the same dark-skinned girl I saw earlier.

"Who is she? I saw her arguing with some guy earlier." I said curiously.

"OMG, you saw her arguing with someone? Who was it? Was it Xavier?" she questioned intensely.

I had a confused look on my face.

"I'm a blogger and post about Nevermore's gossip and social scene and this is def hot gos, so do you know who she was arguing with I bet it was her newly ex-boyfriend."

"I didn't hear much, I just heard Weems say a last name when she intervened, Thorpe I think." I said plainly.

"Yes! Ha I knew it," she said excitedly pulling out her phone to write a blog post, "Who you saw was Xavier, in fact he's right over there working his mural," she said with a smile.

I glanced over to where she gestured and indeed saw the guy from earlier.

"Come on," Enid said gesturing for me to follow as she walked, "let's go get deets."

I rolled my eyes and followed reluctantly.

Enid had opened up her notes app and had her hands ready to type, "Hey Xavier, I heard you and Bianca were fighting, what happened?"

"Really Enid, are you asking as a friend or is it for your blog?" he said without looking away from his mural.

"Would it be bad if it was a little bit of both?" Enid asked apprehensively.

"Yes, Enid it would," he said finally looking away from his art.

This is when he noticed me, his eyes locked with mine and he looked me up and down. It made me a bit self conscious in fact.

"Oh, this is Nevermore's newest student, Dahlia," Enid said introducing me.

"Xavier," he said reaching out a hand.

As I reached out my own hand to take his, the sleeve of my shirt rode up and exposed my skin, revealing my lighting scars. After we shook I quickly placed my hands behind my back.

"Cool gloves," he said nodding his head.

"Thank you," I said with a tight lipped smile.

"And Enid," he said refocusing his attention to her, "Bianca just followed my back to my dorm hall and wouldn't leave me alone, she was trying to convince me to take her back, that's it."

"Ah! Thank you for the inside scoop!" Enid said typing away on her phone.

I decided to leave her to it and journey back to my room and finish unpacking.
