I wanted today to be as normal as possible, I woke up, put on my uniform, minus my gloves, and headed to breakfast. I grabbed an apple and found a bench in the quad and read my text book for my Botany class.
Xavier POV
I grabbed my usual breakfast sandwich at the dining hall and headed to my usual table in the quad and sat down. As I looked up from my seat I noticed her, Dahlia.
She was eating a red apple reading out Botany textbook, I noticed she wasn't wearing her gloves, I guess she didn't have another pair.
What's her secret. I want to help her.
The bell rang as if on cue and I watched her pack up her things and head to her first class, I on the other hand was skipping my first class, I was on a mission.
I grabbed my things and headed to the woods where I found Dahlia. I needed to investigate. Upon arriving to the scene I dropped my bag and started looking around, I was surprised Weems hadn't covered it up. There were char marks on the ground from the fire, is that her ability? Fire manipulation? No that can't be right. Is it?
End Xavier POV
Astronomy was over and I was on the way to botany. I got to class fairly early and took the seat I had been assigned previously. I opened my notebook and began sketching a hydra as in Astronomy we were learning about the hydra constellation.
"I didn't know you drew," Xavier said taking his seat beside me, "that's really good,"
"Thanks," I said looking up at him with a smile.
"Can I see it?" he said gesturing to my drawing, I nodded and handed it to him.
He placed his hand over it and the hydra began to lift from the page and slither on the desk.
"I doubt Miss. Whitmore is impressed my your tricks Mr. Thorpe," said Mrs. Thornhill as she entered the classroom and begin to start the lesson.
"Admit it you're a little impressed?" Xavier said with a smirk.
"It is pretty cool," I said reaching out to touch the hydra, it turned to dust as soon as I made contact. I was impressed.
"Are you free tonight?" Xavier said suddenly.
My head turned to face him immediately, "What for?" I said narrowing my gaze.
"Well you said you were good at botany and I really need help on the homework she assigned the other day, help me out?" he said looking with pleading eyes.
Just as I was about to open my mouth and say no, I heard a voice within my head, Mrs. Arden's "make some friends."
So I said, "Yes, I can meet you in the library tonight around 6:30."
"Perfect, my fencing class will be over before then so I'll be there." He said with a crocked smile, there was a glint of something in his eyes I couldn't quite detect, I guess well have to see.
...
The rest of my classes went by pretty quickly and then it was time to meet Mrs. Arden for our session. She told me to meet her in the fencing room, so thats where I headed I was a little early as she said five and it was 4:40. I figured I'd just wait inside for her and opened the door.
Apparently there was a fencing class going on as I saw multiple people in Lamés dueling one another. I've never fenced before, but it seemed interesting enough to watch so I found a bench along the wall and decided to wait for Mrs. Arden.
I put my hands in my pockets and looked around, seeing a familiar platinum blonde with colored streaks coming my way.
"I'm so sorry about the other night," she said immediately as she sat down beside me. "I had no intention of making you upset, swear."
"It's alright Enid," I said in reply, "I'm the one who should apologize to you, I was rude when your were trying to be kind to me and, I'm sorry. Is there any chance we could start over?" I asked pleadingly feeling the embarrassment of my previous actions.
"OMG, yes please I would love that," Enid said with the biggest grin, "hand me your phone," she said holding her hand out.
My brow furrowed but I reached in my pocket and puled it out handing it to her.
"There," she said handing it back, she saw my look of confusion and answered, "I put in my number, how could we be friends without texting?" she said as if it was obvious.
"Thanks," I said giving a breathy laugh in response.
"No prob, see ya later, you better text me!" she said getting up as the fencing coach was calling for her, I gave her a wave and chuckled.
"Who are you and what've you done to the loner Dahlia I met a few days ago," I heard a voice say, turning to see Xavier, looking very good in his Lamé might I add.
" Well you see I'm trying this new thing where I open up to people and make friends." I said in a joking manner.
He laughed, "Were still on for tonight right?" he asked.
"Yeah I'll see you in the library at 6:30 I just have a session with Mrs. Arden here at 5 then I'm free," I said with a smile.
Xavier furrowed his brow, "A session with Mrs. Arden in the fencing room?" he questioned.
"She wants to 'test my abilities'" I said in air quotes, "she said this would be a safe place for that."
"Any viewers allowed?" He asked with a smile.
"Hm, I don't think so," I said pretending to have thought about it.
"Keeping things mysterious, I like it," He said with a crooked smile, I rolled my eyes in response.
"Miss. Whitmore, are you ready for our session," Mrs. Arden said as if appearing from no where.
"Yes, I am," I said standing up from the bench I was seated at.
"I'll see you tonight," Xavier said before walking away.
"Making friends already I see, I'm glad you're taking my advice," Mrs. Arden said with a knowing smile.
I felt my cheeks flush.
What is happening, I thought to myself.
"Ready to get started?" Mrs. Arden asked.
"As I'll ever be," I replied walking towards her in the center of the room taking deep breaths to mentally prepare. I've never tried to use my powers to do anything more than a few sparks, but it's now or never I guess.
