"Da jie..." Long Sangyu first greeted his sister before suddenly kneeling which was starting to earn a frown from the King.
"This brother failed to stop the gossip mongers because of some opportunists. Da jie can punish me."
The prince threw a look at Su Chen, who was beside him, when he said the word opportunists.
The corner of Xiao Hao's mouth twitched. It was always a bad idea to let these two stay in the same room. But his head started aching when another young man entered the room.
"Wangye, Father..." Xiao Bao was almost clueless but seeing Sangyu and Chen kneeling on the floor, he had to kneel too.
His questions were written all over his face.
Xiao Hao pinched the bridge of his nose. He was taken back to the three's childhood days. He was the one who always had to chase them around and discipline them if they got too rowdy. It looked to be the same until now.
But soon enough, an imposing voice came from the head of the long table.
"Are you done playing?"
Her drooping eyes masked the ferocity that would always be seen in the frontlines.
"Da jie..." | "General!" | "Wa?"
A complaining tone, an indignant accent and a bewildered pitch.
Slap!
The table shook from the force behind wangye's palm but held on. This was obviously more reinforced than the one Feng Yanyan broke in Zhongqing court.
"Sangyu, do not waste time on the smallest of things." A heavy gaze landed on Ping Junwang. "Does a prince easily kneel for trivial matters? Get up and give me a report and possible solutions on the sprouting epidemic in the town north of Rongchang."
"This brother-subject obeys." Long Sangyu was downtrodden.
"Su Chen." Long Xu Le looked at the young governor-general in contempt. She still hadn't forgotten that he was late for the council. "You will stay in the First District as head of the city guards until next year."
His eyes widened. That meant he couldn't go back to the frontlines. "Who will-"
"Danwan has a lot of capable generals. Ben dian wants you to clean the area from the intermediary districts down to the third."
Su Chen's protests were thwarted even before he could finish.
"Bao'er... will be with ben dian from now on."
Xiao Bao's eyes went wide as saucers. His mouth kept opening and closing like a fish then looking at his father. For the longest time, he was with Sangyu. Back when he was a kid, he often asked Xiao Hao when it would be his turn to protect wangye. His father would only reply with a "soon" but it never came.
Feeling a violent force from behind, Xiao Bao ducked.
"What are you staring around for?" came his father's angry words.
"Oh? Oh! Yes, thanking wangye!"
The other two looked on with resentful stares. How come only Xiao Bao took the best position out of all of them?
"That would mean I would be stationed near Yu'er?" Xiao Hao asked with a smile.
Long Sangyu knew that his suffering hadn't ended.
King Wan Li nodded. "None of you are permitted to leave far away from the wangfu in the coming months."
She looked at these three that she helped raise even when she was also young at that time. A rare smile graced her lips.
