Charlotte feels like she and Tyler are on thin ice as Jackie and Logan stare at them. He had just gotten done explaining everything about the keys, leaving the telling of what Charlotte is up to the redhead. She had done the best she could to explain what a Banshee was even though most of the information she had gotten was from the internet; Ashley Orion hadn’t seen the point in teaching the youngest daughter anything with Peyton alive and when Peyton died, Ashley didn’t really bother to stay home.
“Is any of this making sense?” Tyler asks.
Logan breathes out. “Okay. So, you’re a Banshee… and can hear when someone’s close to death because voices start to scream inside your head.” She nods. “And,” he turns to Tyler, “your house is full of magical keys-” Tyler starts to panic a little when he realizes exactly how crazy this all sounds and when Charlotte notices, she puts her hand on his knee to stop his leg from bouncing too much. He glances at her, smiles softly, and puts his own hand over hers. She smiles a little when she watches his shoulders relax. “-and there’s this demon chick who wants to take them so she can open a black door.”
Tyler nods. “Yep. And, uh… Ellie Whedon is helping her. Him. Under duress.”
“The gym teacher,” Logan deadpans. Charlotte and Tyler nod again. “Well, of course. Now it’s getting interesting.”
“This has been going on the whole time?” Jackie questions. The redhead hasn’t met her best friend’s eyes once through the explanation, afraid of what she will see.
“Since my family and I moved here,” Tyler confirms.
Charlotte adds, “Yeah. I actually came back because of the voices. They told me to come here.” Stating it out loud makes her frown: would she have listened to them if she had known what was in store for her here?
Logan still seems unsure of everything. “I don’t know, guys. Do you have, like, some proof or…”
“Other than the evil Kinsey that attacked Eden?” Charlotte asks. Tyler squeezes her hand, calming her down before he takes out the fire key. He then grabs a nearby book. Instantly, she grabs it away from him. “Are you crazy?”
“We need to show them,” he argues. “And no offense but they can’t hear what you hear so the only option we have are the keys.”
“I’m talking about setting a book on fire,” Charlotte corrects.
“What am I supposed to do? Set myself on fire?”
“Maybe you should.”
“This is not the time for this.”
“Set the desk on fire then.” She points at it.
He frowns. “How is that better than the book?”
“Because it’s not a book.”
“Oh, my God, Lee, just give me-”
“No.”
“Charlotte-”
“Not the book.”
He throws his hands up before he finally sighs and scratches the table with the key, setting it on fire for a split second. Charlotte blows it out for him. She sets the book down and he rolls his eyes as Jackie and Logan take it in.
“That’s not bad,” Logan states.
Jackie, on the other hand, doesn’t seem thrilled. “I’m going to go check on Eden.”
Charlotte had made the mistake of looking at her. She sees fear in Jackie’s eyes for a brief second before she looks away. “Shit,” she breathes out. She runs a hand through her hair and glances at Tyler.
