LIFE AT THE BURROW was as different as possible from life on Kaiser Vale. Beomgyu got a bit of a shock the first time he looked in the mirror over the kitchen mantelpiece and it shouted, "Tuck your shirt in, scruffy!"
The ghoul in the attic howled and dropped pipes whenever he felt things were getting too quiet, and small explosions from Anna's bedroom were considered perfectly normal. Beomgyu had finally met Anelle and Aleksandra, as they came on visits on their free days; Anelle was found chasing Anna around, dust in her face, as Beomgyu expected that Anna had just blown and exploded something in her face.
Aleksandra was found with Wendy most of the time, she enjoyed Wendy a lot, while Arlo did her own business; when Beomgyu thought on how Arlo had been the loudest with him and their friends, she had been the most to herself in her own room.
What Beomgyu found most unusual about life at his friend's, however, wasn't the talking mirror or the clanking ghoul: It was the fact that everybody there seemed to like him (besides from his friends that is).
Mrs. Sim fussed over the state of his socks and tried to force him to eat fourth helpings at every meal. Mr. Sim liked Beomgyu to sit next to him at the dinner table so that he could bombard him with questions about life with Muggles, Jake would put himself next to Beomgyu just in case their Father got embarrassing; and Mr. Sim asked Beomgyu to explain how things like plugs and the postal service worked ("What is the function of a rubber duck?" "Oh c'mon father! We're still on that?").
"Fascinating!" he would say as Beomgyu talked him through using a telephone. "Ingenious, really, how many ways Muggles have found of getting along without magic."
Beomgyu heard from Hogwarts one sunny morning about a week after he had arrived at the Burrow. He and Jungwon went down to breakfast to find Mr. and Mrs. Sim with Jake and Wendy's plate, as they were already sitting at the kitchen table.
The moment she saw Beomgyu, Wendy accidentally
knocked her porridge bowl to the floor with a loud clatter.Beomgyu stopped in the last step and blinked at her. Wendy seemed very prone to knocking things over whenever he entered a room. At first, he thought she was a lot like Arlo, but he wasn't so sure who was more clumsy anymore.
"Hope it doesn't get worse from here. Having Sunoo as her crush was much as it is. At least she's just knocking stuff over, with Sunoo—she'd trip on air," Jungwon whispered as she dived under the table to retrieve the bowl.
Pretending he hadn't noticed this, Beomgyu sat down and took the toast Mrs. Sim offered him.
"Letters from school," said Mr. Sim, passing Beomgyu, Jake, and Jungwon identical envelopes of yellowish parchment, addressed in green ink; as he still held one in his hand.
Then, a yawn was heard from behind them. "Good morning everyone!" Arlo greeted lazily.
She dropped down on the seat next to Beomgyu, and he almost laughed at her unkept hair which emerged with her face glowing like the setting sun.
"And here for you, Arlo. Dumbledore already knows you're here, Beomgyu—doesn't miss a trick, that man," Mr. Sim said.
For a few minutes there was silence as they all read their letters. Beomgyu's told him to catch the Hogwarts Express as usual from King's Cross station on September first. There was also a list of the new books he'd need for the coming year.
