The room is pitch black as always so I'm not even sure if my eyes are open or not much less the time but I still reach over to try to grab Tego in his sleep but the space is empty.
I sit up in the bed and rub my eyes before feeling the space again.
Still empty.
I try to wipe the last of the sleep from my eyes before reaching over to the nightstand to check the time in my phone.
11:34.
I hop out of the bed after texting my parents and make my way to the kitchen where I finally see Tego cutting up fruit for me.
He gives me a fake shock look before smiling.
"Good morning, Jade." He greets me.
I nod in response as he brings a plate of fruit assortment to me.
I take a seat at the island before helping myself to the assortment.
I open my mouth to make conversation with Tego but his phone begins ringing so he steps out of the room to take the call and when he returns he's still on the phone but his expression is now blank.
"What's wrong?" I ask as I finish the last thing on my plate.
He finishes cooking the last piece of bacon before packing some of what he cooked in a container and pushes it towards me.
"You can't eat here right now." He doesn't look at me when he speaks.
His mind seems to be somewhere else.
"Huh?" He's heading to the direction of his room and observes the entire space.
"Jade, yuh nuh deaf. Nuh bada mek mi get rude." He kisses his teeth and scans his room once more.
He seems to be paranoid.
"Why? What's wrong? You seem paranoid." I press him but he just takes a deep sigh before walking over to me and places both of his hands in either of my shoulders.
"Don't worry about that, Jade." He spins me in the direction of the front door.
"Tego-"
"Jade gah yuh bloodclaat yaad nuh bredda. Fuck do yuh? Yuh too bomboclaat stubborn. Learn fi listen." His booming voice sends shivers down my spine.
He quickly walks over to me to tap my ear lobes. "Dem here?" He gestures to them now. "Use them."
My heart stings at his harshness.
"Yuh always mek mi haffi gwaan like mi fucking dark." He mumbles.
I kiss my teeth before taking a seat at the island once more.
Tego's behaviour is beyond strange and he doesn't have a reason to hide anything from me. Quite frankly, I am very offended at his behaviour.
"Jade." He speaks firmly but I ignore not only his voice but also his burning glare.
He pulls me to my feet quickly and puts the container back in my hands. "You're going home. Take this and I'll see you once I'm free again."
He gestures to the door with a finger.
There's no point in fighting.
Why am I even trying to be there for someone who doesn't want me there? That doesn't make any fucking sense and I'm tired of Tego taking me for a fool.
All he does is be nice to me one minute and then treats me terribly the next when all I've ever done is be there for him in every way he needs.
This is fucking stupid.
A single tear falls from my eye but I quickly wipe it before finally turning towards the door in a defeated manner.
"Whatever." I roll my eyes.
He releases a satisfied sigh.
"You usually bring me back home. You do realize that, right?" I point out to him.
He shrugs before a mischievous smile creeps unto his face.
"Good ting yuh drive, don't?" He laughs. "Can drive yuhself this time."
I glare at him but he doesn't care.
That's the thing.
This is what it's taking for reality to finally hit me.
He doesn't care.
No matter what I do it's just not up to me and it never was.
Tego just doesn't care.
If I have any value for myself, I should cut this off right now.
This man is always playing with my feelings.
All the memories- good and bad come flooding me in an almost overwhelming way.
"You're fucking pathetic and I don't want anything to do with you anymore." I spit.
I didn't even realize that this thought had come in my head much less to come from my lips.
"Jade, don't fuck with me." His breath is ragged but it brings me back to reality. "Just go home. Please. I'll call you."
I sigh before reaching out to twist the door knob.
"Oh, Jade, your food." He hands me back the fucking container.
The fucking container.
What could possibly give him the impression that I am in any way interested in that?
I laugh involuntarily.
This man is crazy.
I finally kiss my teeth before knocking it out of his hand causing all the contents to fly across the room.
He immediately scowls and takes a quick step to stand over me.
"Yuh fucking stupid? Yuh shoulda neva do that." He growls.
I kiss my teeth once more and roll my eyes- challenging him.
"Good ting yuh can get it cleaned, don't? Yuh can even clean it yuhself." I sneer.
He laughs lightly. "When you leave, don't contact me. I don't want to get to know you anymore."
His answer releases a stress from my chest but weirdly enough it adds a foreign feeling to my shoulders and head instead.
I decide that I don't need to wait on any type of further response. That's enough for me. I just turn on my heel and walk to my car without looking back.
I still don't look back even throughout my entire drive back to my house. I just get lost in the music in my car.
Once I get home I greet my parents, take a shower and immediately fall into a deep sleep.
