It happened eleven years ago, when Sasuke and Naruko were to be married. Barely even a year out of high school but they felt so strongly about it that no one could change their minds. Their parents also thought if they didn't give them their blessings they would have eloped
Sasuke and Naruko have been each other's soulmates since childhood. What started out as competitive rivalry, evolved into unexpected friendship, and then into a whirlwind romance
Everyone was happy for them, they congratulated the passionately-in-love-couple who showed off their engagement rings.
Naruko had tears in her eyes and the biggest smile on her beautiful face. Sasuke looked the proudest he's ever been in his life
The only one who wasn't happy for them was their childhood friend Sakura.
For as long as she could remember she had always envied the attention the blonde girl had received. She was just always so.... better than her.
Gifted with long golden locks that framed her perfect heart shaped face, shining blue diamonds for viewers, and radiating sweetness and warmth like no other. Naruko was beloved by everyone who meets her. But she was never arrogant or the slightest bit self absorbed about it, Naruko was the kindest, purest, warmest person imaginable.
Sakura guessed that was how Sasuke fell in love with the stupid dead last of Konoha. She was only his rival in sports and Arts, her academic performance meanwhile was lackluster
It wasn't fair. Sakura was the top of every class she has, she was strong enough to break the bones of any asshole who dared mess with her, and she spent so much of her time with improving her looks, buying the latest makeup and perfume.
Sakura always thought she was the one who would end up dating, and eventually marrying Sasuke, the prince of their high school. She always thought their crush for each other was a phase and eventually they'd forget about their feelings. She hoped and prayed that Sasuke would get over the stupid blonde and notice her instead
She thought Naruko dating Sasuke wouldn't last. They were still young anyway
"It couldn't possibly last" was what she thought with a scoff.
Oh how wrong she was.
Naruko getting engaged to Sasuke was the tipping point where it stopped being jealousy and morphed into active contempt. Sasuke's proposal to Naruko was the last straw
Naruko getting married cemented the idea to Sakura that she had just lost everything. Naruko would walk down the aisle, get married, have children, and Sakura will be alone forever. Sure she still had her whole life ahead of her but that didn't matter to a bitter girl in her twenties
Especially when Naruko, the former loser, dead last, loudmouthed dumb blonde(basically her total opposite) was doing so much better than her.
She wished it were all not true
If only it wasn't real

Sakura woke up, on the morning of the wedding, from a particularly bad dream
And upon remembering what day it was, hatched a desperate plan
She was thinking less of "I'm going to ruin this day" to more of "I need to stop this from happening"
It was her job to get Naruko dressed and at the venue, being the Maid of honor gave her the power to make or break the wedding. Hinata and Ino were already at the church helping the other bridesmaids with their dresses
Sakura's sole responsibility before the wedding was to produce Naruko
Taking advantage of Naruko's anxiousness and distracting her with meaningless tasks, Sakura hid their phones so they wouldn't be charged
And chose to take the route that had an intense construction that would continue into the weekend. That meant they would be condensing the street and traffic today. She'll just tell Naruko it was a short cut
Since Naruko didn't have a license, she wouldn't know any other way to get somewhere from another.
Confident with her plan and still feeling resentment, she started assisting Naruko with her hair and makeup. Twice she pulled on Naruko's hair tightly on purpose, enjoying the blonde's winces and yelps
Two hours later, the two of them were on the road
Before Naruko knew it, they were hopelessly stuck in traffic. It was bumper to bumper, and then not moving. It could take them hours to get out of this dilemma.
"Sakura-chan give me your phone! I'm calling dad"
The pink haired woman handed the desperate bride her pink cellphone. Naruko cursed when she saw there was only one cellular, and then the screen went black.
"No!" The tanned girl cried clutching the phone. "Fuck, it's dead, and I'm dead! Oh my God Sasuke's gonna so mad"
Seeing her friend begin to cry snapped Sakura out of her self loathing and jealousy and finally came to terms with what she had caused.
Thinking quickly she hastily threw Naruko's phone to the floor and picked it up.
"H-hey! Naruko look, here's your phone!" She gulped. "You must have left it... In..here"
Naruko snatched the phone and long pressed it. But nothing. She couldn't reach out to Sasuke or anyone that they were stuck in traffic. "Fuck! Why today of all days?!" She wiped away the fresh tears coming out.
Sakura bit her lip anxiously, mentally kicking herself for doing something so stupid and selfish. "N-Naruko" she began
"This day was supposed to be perfect, I've been dreaming of this since I was five!" The blonde revealed. "Y-you've wanted to marry Sasuke since you were five?" Sakura asked.
Naruko laughed between cries. "Crazy right?"
"But... But you two were always fighting"
"We teased each other to get attention" Naruko wiped away her tears, further ruining her makeup. "After each fight, Sasuke would find me crying on the swing behind the school, alone... He'd take out his handkerchief, wipe away my tears, and apologize for making me cry, while wearing the most cute, guilt-ridden face ever" she giggled with a blush
"Holy crap they've loved each other since kindergarten! I made a mistake!" Sakura realized. "Naruko, when we get there just tell them it's my fault"
"Traffic isn't your fault Sakura"
The pinkette's silence caused Naruko to face her with narrowed eyes. "Right? Sakura?"
"Naruko I'm so sorry!" Sakura yelled. "I was just so jealous and angry--I couldn't accept that Sasuke is marrying you and not me--and I fucked up! I fucked up really badly! I knew about the construction but I drove here anyway!" Sakura revealed. "I just wanted--Naruko wait!"
Suddenly the blonde opened the passenger door and then slammed it shut so hard it caused the window to crack.
Next thing she knows, Naruko was running four lanes of immobile traffic while wearing five inch heels and holding up a flowing wedding gown
Fortunately for her a cab driver took pity on her, and drove her the rest of the way to the church.
She kicked open the cab doors and ran up the cobblestone stairs, looking very frenzied. "SASUKE!" she screams. The first people to rush towards her were her parents. Kushina consoled the shaking bride while Minato handled the cab fare
"Naru-chan!" Hinata and some of her friends rushed towards her
"Your dress!" Ino gasped, looking at her ruined, muddy gown. "What happened to you?"
"Where's Sakura?" Lee asked
Naruko ignored her and ran up the rest of the stairs, her parents and friends ran after her. "Naru-chan!" Kushina and Minato called after. "What happened to Sakura?" Ino asked
Naruko stopped, and threw them all a bone-chilling, hateful look. "I'm cutting that backstabbing bitch out of my fucking life!"
