Present

It had been a month of classes and nothing about my routine was different until today.

There was a new student in my class, a person even more lost than me! I was no longer the only stranger.

He was brunette, had green eyes and seemed quiet.

-Hey. -He said.

-Hey. -I say turning sharply to see who was talking to me.

-I'm Adam.

-Eva, pleasure. -I say with a smile. It was the only thing I could do for the boy before I was a complete fool. Because that's what I am.

-Are you taking the bus here? -I nodded affirmatively. -Oh, cool, me too.I got on the bus and he followed me.

I sat on the back seats and took out my book, I notice that Adam also takes out a book.

And amazingly enough he's reading the same book as me: "Pride and Prejudice".

As crazy as I am I start to laugh. He notices my laughter, and notices what I'm laughing at, he consequently starts laughing too.

We remain silent for the rest of the trip until I get to my stop.

-Goodbye Eva. -Adam waves to me and I wave back.

I get home and try to be productive since I completely hibernated yesterday.

I start by studying for the test I was going to take tomorrow and then I remember I have to eat lunch.

The hours go by, and I notice that I stayed five hours straight studying for my history test. It was kind of nice, I like history, and it was a time well spent.

I pick up my mobile phone for the first time of the day and see a message from my dad.

"There is traffic on the highway, I will be late, can you order food?"

I answer yes, and call a nearby pizza place.

-How was the day?

-It was good, I read, I studied, I read, I studied, you know my cycle. -I say taking a bite of the pizza. -And yours?

-Horrendous, I had a very annoying court case today, but everything's fine, I'm home now.

-That's boring.

- But tell me, did you dream something?

-No. -I wasn't lying, I haven't dreamt about anything special, just stupid stuff.

-Okay. -He said a little doubtful.

-Okay. -Responding back, knowing he wasn't supposed to answer.

-Have you managed to make any friends?

My dad knew I didn't trust anyone and that it would be hard for me to get along with people again, I knew those questions were normal, just questions from a worried father.

-Nope, but there's a new boy in my class.

-Uh,and what's his name?

-Adam. -I answer.

-That's funny. You know if you were a boy you'd be Adam? Your mum always liked the name, and said it was because of Adam and Eve, except she didn't like Eve very much so she thought Eva had a lot more personality.

That made me genuinely happy.

It was one of the first times I've ever seen my dad laugh while talking about my mum.

I stay with my dad talking until it's bedtime.

I loved my dad, he was the one I loved the most at the moment, even though sometimes it didn't seem like it. My family on my mum's side say I've become colder since she died. For I'd also like to see what would happen to them if they were in my situation. But my father never said I had become colder, Never. He always gave me space, to talk, he listened to me, he didn't judge, even if to him, who also suffered, and lost the woman he loved and the mother of his only daughter.

Before going to sleep I decide to take the sleeping pill I was given, and I take the book and read it again until the pill takes effect.
