A Date?

"Hey man! You eaten yet?" Mike greets me at the door, but I can see expectant looks from his friends inside, my soul drops from my body in an odd mix of relief and fear:

I'm immediately greeted with the facts that this either isn't a date or they've all come to watch, but either way I'm going to have to interact with more people than I hoped.

Trying to pull off the pause as my recollection of whether I have eaten yet, or perhaps just taking in the artistically crafted exterior, the carved roses on the entrances pillars and the swirling wood around the window frames.

"I, uh... I don't think so."

"Then I'll get you something, my friends paying, so no sweat off my back!"

Ah, I've been invited to a fancy celebration dinner. Almost worse than being mistakenly invited to a date.

"Are you celebrating?"

They turn and open the door for me; revealing a dark blue carpeted landing. The coat room a smallish dark oak door, following the old wooden theme, I worry the rain will soak the wood down to nothing, or... however that works. Far too fancy for my yellow insignia shirt- which I now realise is Bomb Guy's- and my half ripped black jeans. The spirally ceiling lamp is mocking my outfit.

"Yeah! My friend Chaos just quit the hero program, he's treating all his normie friends."

"Chaos? Like THE Chaos?" I attempt to recollect my apprehension and slight fear, mask it like it's eager enthusiasm, but Mike sees right through as I begin to remove my black leather coat, wet from the drizzle outside.

"He's not actually scary, I know the name and the parents are kinda a lot- guys got a proper villain backstory, like a straight up comic book- but he's really sweet honestly. I thought you guys would get along but I know you would've said no if I told you how many people were gonna be here."

I give him a point blank stare.

"Telling me would've been better. I mean look at me, I'm not in fancy dinner clothes. I could've prepared." He takes my coat and hangs it up with his yellow raincoat.

"I mean I told you the place, I thought you knew it was fancy."

A tiny sigh expels from me.

"I thought you were asking me out; honestly." Admitting it causes another breath out, this one more like a nervous laugh.

Turning I see Mike is as red as some of the couches placed in the lounge area in the main restaurant, obviously taken by the accusation to a place in his own mind, whether it was disgust or excitement, I couldn't've told you. I hold the door open for him, being immediately greeted with over-friendly faces.

"Hey! I'm Stew! You're Trevor, right? Can I call you Trev?" Greets a smiling face attached to a very striking red suit jacket, a maroon shirt just about poking out from the jackets wide collar.

"I'm Ignis, it's nice to meet you." A hand is extended my way. Her outfit more downplayed and perfectly fit to the atmosphere, a crop blue shirt and some very nice looking suit trousers.

"Where's Chaos?" Another joins. "Oh new guy, hey; Killian." Camo jacket and pink dress shirt a strange but somehow workable combo, especially with the huge thick platformed boots he stunts to draw attention to the whole outfit. Very flashy as well; I start to get an idea of this friendship groups dynamics.

"-Yeah I thought he was coming with you guys?" And another, with almost the exact same look as the other, besides the boots and an overall vibe of less confidence in the face, they must be twins, or very close siblings; who look exactly the same.
