8:30 am. En route school. 17th April 2019.
Doyoung was painfully making his way to school, his body ached, painted with shades of crimson and burgundy, trying not to re-open fresh wounds was a hard task.
His father had been raging drunk last night and Doyoung had arrived home at the wrong moment, receiving a beating that he'd never forget for the rest of his days.
"Hey Captain!" Taeyong called as he skipped up to the taller "It's a bright sunny day and I was hoping tha.....what the hell happened to you?!"
Taeyong's heart dropped into his shoes as he saw the state Doyoung was in. Cut lip, black eye and by the way he was walking there was definitely a further extent to his injuries. Injuries on the inside, his heart and soul were scarred and bleeding.
"I fell" Doyoung shoved his hands in his pockets defensively, looking away from the smaller.
"Into a pit of crocodiles?" Taeyong deadpanned as he gently put his arms around the taller waist and rested his head on his chest "Don't lie to me Doyoung. I just want to help"
Doyoung thoughtfully ran his hands through Taeyong's neon green hair, contemplating whether he should tell the smaller anything or not.
"Listen" Taeyong sighed "You don't have to tell me anything you don't want to. There's no reason to lie to me, just let me help you okay?"
"Okay, okay fairy boy" Doyoung put his arm around Taeyong's shoulders "Let's go to yours"
"Skipping school hmm?" Taeyong sniggered "So naughty"
"Shut the hell up" the taller rolled his eyes and they were on their way to Taeyong's flat. The smaller babbled on about all sort of nonsense, taking advantage of the fact that Doyoung wasn't in the mood to tell him to be quiet but as soon as they reached his neighborhood, he grew quiet.
"It's not much to look at but it's home" Taeyong mumbled before unlocking his front door.
"It's perfect" Doyoung reassured as he walked in. The whole place screamed Lee Taeyong, the mismatched furniture, each wall was painted a different colour and his things were everywhere.
After Taeyong had tended to all of Doyoung's wounds he dressed him into some more comfier clothes and gave him a gentle scolding "You need to take better care or the cuts can get infected and the-"
"Alright, alright, I get it nurse Lee" Doyoung sighed as he let his eyes fall shut "Didn't know you were so good at this medical stuff"
"Yeah, well, Haneul used to fight a lot. Plus, I wanted to be a nurse when I was younger" Taeyong admitted with pink cheeks "Don't you dare laugh at me"
"What?! I'm not laughing" the taller smirked "I think it's kinda cute actually"
Taeyong grabbed a cushion and slapped Doyoung's arm with it in embarrassment. The taller yelped and glared at the smaller "That hurt, idiot"
"It was meant to" Taeyong smiled innocently, leaning his head gently on Doyoung's shoulder.
The taller pulled Taeyong on to his lap and they stayed like that for a while, just listening to each others heart beats before Doyoung broke the silence.
"I'll tell you what happened since you're so eager to know" he sighed, letting his hands run through the smallers hair which always comforted himself more that it did Taeyong "But don't interrupt, okay?"
"Okay" the green haired boy cuddled closer into Doyoung's warm body "Proceed"
"My dad beat me up" the taller boy sighed feeling Taeyong stiffen up as soon as he said the words "Shhh it's okay baby. You said you wouldn't interrupt me"
Taeyong grumbled but settled back down.
"He's an alcoholic and when he drinks he becomes violent. And I become his punching bag" Doyoung swallowed thickly "He drinks because he's grieving. My mother died when I was born. Because I was born actually. She died during child birth and he misses her. He blames me because it is my fault."
"What? How is that your fault?!" Taeyong burst out, not being able to contain himself any longer "That's absurd. Your father is sad and he's looking for someone to blame"
Doyoung stayed silent but a tear rolled down his cheek.
Taeyong was scared, he had never seen the taller cry. He was Doyoung after all, he didn't do things like that.
"Doyoung, don't cry" the smaller whispered, sitting up on Doyoung's lap "Please don't cry. Your mother died to give you a life. So live it well if not for yourself then for her. What was her name? Tell me."
"N-Nabi" he sniffled, rubbing his eyes as he let Taeyong baby him "Kim Nabi"
"That's a beautiful name" Taeyong smiled softly, kissing Doyoung's cheeks and forehead.
"It m-means butterfly. That's what my d-dad used to c-call her"
"I bet she was beautiful too" Taeyong whispered with a small smile "Wasn't she?"
"Mhmm" Doyoung smiled, nodded and fumbled in his pockets for his wallet. He opened it, displaying an old grainy photograph of a smiling girl with eyes like Doyoung's, dimples and a heart shaped face "This is h-her"
"She's gorgeous. You have her eyes " Taeyong wiped away the taller's tears and wrapped his arms around Doyoung's neck "How old was she there?"
"16" the dark haired boy grinned with a small sniffle "She was 19 when she had me"
"She sounds amazing" Taeyong gazed at her photo, silently making an oath to her that he would never let Doyoung be sad again.
"She was" the taller laughed "I didn't ever meet her, but I just know that she was"
For the rest of that day they talked in hushed voices, laughed softly, cried a little bit but they were happy tears. Tears of wonder, amazement and gratitude. How had someone so angelic and perfect entered their life? What had they done to deserve this? They didn't know nor understand, but did anyone really?
