Archer's POV

"What do you mean Alpha?"

"Your Alpha, Alpha Daniel," I replied. Do they call their Alpha something different? Something about my mate is not quite right. Don't get me wrong she's perfect, and I will love her no matter what, but I feel that something is wrong. She doesn't seem to see me as her mate. Maybe my wolf got it wrong? She isn't supposed to back away from me. Isn't she supposed to run to me with open arms?

"What's an Alpha?" she asks with confusion in her eyes. I can't help but stare at her in disbelief. I know she is a wolf. I can smell it on her. However she doesn't seem to understand Alphas or boundaries, not that I am complaining about her crossing onto my pack lands. If she hadn't I wouldn't have met her. I take a second to really look at her and notice something that infuriates my wolf.

She has scars and bruises on her face, some of them look to be very fresh others really old. I have no idea how I missed them all of this time. I must have been too caught up in the fact that I had meet my mate. My mate. I growl at the thought of anyone hurting my mate. She backed away a little at my growl. Stop growling, you idiot, it scares her, I tell myself.

"I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you," I say, "Where do you live?" I ask. I want to make sure that she is on Alpha Daniel's land. My scouts could have made a mistake. She might be a rouge and has never been around a pack. That might explain why she doesn't know what a pack is, but still I find it strange that she could live in the wolf world and not hear about packs, rouge or not.

Her eyes widened and she look scared again. She gets scared often. That is something that we are going to have to work on. My luna will stand up for herself and be brave for our pack, but I guess in this situation it is reasonable. She just met a stranger in the woods, and he's asking her where she lives, being a little scared is reasonable. I'm not just a stranger though, I'm her mate. I still don't get how she doesn't see me as her mate.

"I don't live around here. Actually need to be getting home. My dad will be looking for me," she says in an extremely quiet voice. I freeze. She can't go, I just found her. I am barely able to refrain from growling for fear of scaring her even more.

She is hesitant to tell me anything about herself. I just want to take her into my arms and protect her, She mentioned her father and I have a hunch that he is the one that has been hitting her. The thought makes me shake with anger. If I find out that he really is the one that hurts her, I will kill him without a second thought.

Right now, I need to focus on my mate and what to do with her. I am so confused, and my emotions are all over the place. One second bliss then confusion, then anger, then curiosity, and then anger again. My first priority is to make sure she is safe and away from whoever is giving her these scars. I can worry about the rest when I know she is safe.

"Finley, please don't be scared of me. I need you to tell me where you live so I can protect you from whoever did this too. You can trust me. I promise."

I can see the internal battle she is having. She wants to tell me and let me help her, but something is holding her back. I can see it in her eyes as she avoids eye contact with me.
