You two can't do anything right, filthy Faunus, shitty kids.
Those are three phrases seared into our minds. For years I listened, protected by my brother. Sometimes, I'd do the same for him.
"Hey, Benisu, it's not worth it." He says as I sighed, continuing to work, nearby another worker is being whipped, disobedience, that's the claim.
"I know, it's just, this isn't right."
"Hey, not now."
"Adam, come on, you know as well as I do, this isn't right."
"I know, but we can't talk about it here."
"Got something to say?" An older male in a riot uniform said standing behind us two boys.
"N-No Sir."
"No, no, say it."
"Beni, don't say a word." Adam orders, standing between us, my hands remained on the pickaxe, my black eyes kept on Adam. "Sir, we were just talking about how we don't have any food at home, and we needed to find a way to get something."
"I'm sure you were kid." The man raises his hand, I watched in horror as he swings a brand at me, he was aiming for my eyes, they widened in fear before closing, I hit the ground, and the sound of searing flesh, when I opened my eyes I saw it, my best friend, no brother, kneeling on the ground screaming in pain, his hands clutching his face, I watched in horror as the man turned to me, ready to do the same to me, but... something strange happened, he seemingly slowed down, in my terror, I grabbed the pickaxe in my hand and ran for him screaming in fear and anger, I don't remember much about what happened next, but... when I regained myself, the entire mine had collapsed, I was being dragged away from the nine, dragged in the snow, thank god the snow helped the burning feeling in my head.
"Wha... What happened?" I asked, barely awake.
"Don't talk now, not after that." Adam says he didn't dare look back at me, after that day he always covered his eyes, and told me to cover mine as well. Years later, when we were roughly fourteen or fifteen the two of us joined a raid on a supply warehouse.
"Maybe we should just leave." One of our fellow thief's said, scared.
"No." Adam says with me by his side. The two of us walking side by side. "It's time we stood up for ourselves." He says we showed off our new masks, both of us with grins.
"Adam, Benisu."
"We've been beaten, murdered, and treated like mutts. Doing this, is only illegal in the eyes of those who call us animals, monsters even." I said, my eyes hidden behind the mask.
"Yeah, you're right. Hey, what's with the custom masks? Kind of makes you two look like Grimm." One of them says to us.
"We may not want them to know who we are, but we need to make sure they never forget what we look like." I said with a grin.
"Now..." Adam says opening the door. "It's time we got what we deserved."
The mission was a success, and we very quickly got the gear and left, with all the necessary equipment, I was finally able to make myself a personal weapon, not the throwing knives, and throwing stars I had been using. I custom Tanto, the name I gave the blade engraved on it. Eternal. I also finally had the parts for a grappling hook, the two would become my main weapons. Yet more years later, we became captains, and on a mission alongside the leadership of the organization we joined, we were ambushed. Our leader tried to reason with them, but at the time I agreed with my brother, there's no honor amongst them.
"Please, we're just trying to pass through." He was shot in the arm, the leader of the enemy, a racist bigot, curses our group.
Adam and I both swing wide around the group, The AB combo, is what we were called, as we quickly knocked out foes and defended our allies. That is until the leader, scared of our skill tried to run at me, with a fire knife, it was about to explode and I could see it was ready, but, I didn't have the chance to save him, Adam used his semblance I saw it clearly with my eyes, the panic on Adam's face as he launched an attack at him, blood splattered on my mask, and the truck.
