Chapter Five
-
Lily
"Lily, Lily! Wake up!" Someone says shaking me, when I don't respond they slap me across the face.
"Shit, what the hell Marlene," I moan, sitting up and pushing her away, giving her a pathetic slap.
"You slept in, you have five minutes to get to class," Marlene says slowly, her hands on my shoulders.
"What? Shit? Why the fuck didn't you wake me?!"
"I did, I'm doing it now," Marlene says in a duh-tone.
I push her away and run into the bathroom and almost scream at the sight of myself in the mirror, "Why the fuck didn't you wake me earlier, Marlene?! I can't let J-," but then I stop, glaring at Marlene, who is leaning against the door frame, smirking.
"Who? You can't let who see you like this? James?"
"Oh shut the fuck up and help me get ready!" I demand, furious that I let my anger get the better of me.
Four minutes later the two of us are charging through the hallways of the castle and skidding around the corners with a bar of Honeydukes chocolate in my mouth, which was the only food we could find in the dorm.
"Sorry, we're late," I say, gasping for breath as we crash into the Transfiguration classroom.
A bunch of second years turn in their seats to stare at us and McGonnagal glares at us, "I think you should be telling that to your Professor for this period," she says haughtily.
"Oh my god, I'm so so sorry, Professor," I say, my eyes widening in horror.
"I should think so, now would you take McKinnion and go to your correct class please," she says calmly, but I can see her nostrils flaring.
I nod, and back out of the classroom, pulling Marlene with me.
I drag her around the corner, "I thought you said we had Transfiguration?!"
Marlene looks at me silently laughing, "Marlene!" I snap.
"What, that's what the timetables said," she pulled out two almost identical timetables that she must've collected at breakfast. Marlene points to Monday period one, where it says Transfiguration.
I snatch them out of her hands, "It's Friday!"
"Who the hell starts school on a Friday?!"
"I don't know?! Let's just go!" I thrust the timetables into her hands, swing my bag over my shoulder and stalk off.
"Hey sweet, we have Slughorn first, he loves you, he won't care if we're late!"
Despite the (incredibly) rocky start to the day, Marlene is right, Slughorn couldn't care less if I was an hour late. Even though I only have three classes that day, I have enough homework to keep me occupied all weekend, but that doesn't stop me from taking down names when I can, during classes I watch the way people act and I listen to their conversations and by Friday the ninth I have come up with a long list of people that I have no idea if I can trust.
"Potter, Potter!" I call across the common room.
James looks up from his game of chess with Peter and sees me. Grinning, he says something to Peter and strolls over.
"Hey Evans," he says, sitting down on the floor opposite me, "What's up?"
"Your list?" I ask.
"My what? Oh yeah my list!" James says, "Moony, Wormtail and Padfoot."
