VII ; Meeting
Urban Zahn walked down the narrow hallway. Every door he passed was polished neatly by hand, and divided carefully into a half-glass, half-wood finish. He arrived at a door that read "Room 2093" and unlocked it carefully, placing his digit on the reader. A blooming green light flashed on the glass, followed by an obtuse clicking sound. Urban wrapped his fingers around the knob, hesitating slightly, before opening the passage.
The first thing he noticed was a marble floor. Then, as he lifted his gaze, there were strips of glass and wood hanging from the ceiling, like lanterns in a forest. His dormitory was gorgeous, fit for royalty. Urban no longer cared that he had to share it with one more person. He decided to relax on a deep-red, huge leather couch. Letting out a huge groan, he was relaxed and calm for the first time in a very long while.
"Are you... Urban Zahn?"
Someone spoke up, interrupting Urban's leisure. They were clutching a terminal, on which they were reading a schedule. Urban knew that he had a flatmate, but he didn't quite expect them to be the first person he saw when he bounced in. His newly-found roommate had eyes that looked like a field of midnight flowers, a head of messy, unnaturally-dyed platinum-blonde hair, and a smile that could melt anyone's heart.
"Yeah. And you?" Urban said, grinning.
"Ryon Odello." The boy smiled, walking towards Urban. His face was shining in the bright lights, giving his tan skin an almost reflective glow. He motioned to the couch, before speaking again. He had a melodious, strangely storybook-esque voice. "Can I sit, eh?"
"Sure, go ahead." Urban said, giving Ryon a thumbs up and a warm smile. The duo sat in silence for a bit, until Urban let out an obnoxiously loud sneeze. That made them both fall into a pit of laughter.
At that moment, they knew they would be great friends.
"So, tell me about yourself." Ryon said warmly. He stared off monotonously while he paid attention, leaning his elbow into the couch's arm. He wore a cerulean button-up shirt, jet-black skinny jeans with huge rips at the knee, and a white chain with several charms that rested around his neck.
"I'm Urban Zahn, son of Isle Zahn and Rella Heron. I have a younger sibling named Dare, but I never met them. I don't even know their gender. I was sent here because my parents went somewhere." Urban said, calmly, despite the thick topic. He would usually introduce himself simply, but he thought Ryon should know more than just his name.
"It seems everyone is going through a tragedy of their own these days." Ryon said longingly, playing with the amethyst ring on his index finger.
Author's Note — Of all the stories that will be in this collection, I think this is the one I have edited and re-written the most. The original version I wrote in 8th grade is still very similar, but certain nuances of the way these two interact has always made them a hard duo to write. You will see, with time. Happy Sunday, VNEXXA.
