There are a variety of things in life that a person may cherish. For these, one may do everything in their power to protect them. As for y/n l/n, one of the things she places great value on...is money. This alone is what justifies her current situation and spikes her protective instincts.

"What the hell did you hit me for!?"

The said female had drop-kicked the black-haired man, who was knocked to the ground from the collision. This gave her 'sources of income,' Jeanne and Luca, time to escape before the situation escalated. Y/n, a Dhampir, was the information broker of the escapees and had been the person who tipped them off regarding the book of the vampire of the blue moon.

"Oh, come on. It couldn't have been that bad, Vanitas." The h/c-haired girl scoffed with an eye roll and her arms crossed. Noé commented that the girl had booted the now-injured man's head to the ground and that his complaints were valid.

"Hm...maybe don't try to kill my source of income next time, and I'll spare you the beating. I'd have to steal the two of you from Danté if that had happened."

Danté neared the edge of the roof he stood on, "Hey, don't even try it!"

"Did you have to tell her about me, though?" Vanitas whined, his body still on the floor, not bothering to get up after the kick.

"Well, they have been looking for a cure. So I had to give the details needed." Y/n raised her hand, forming a peace sign with her fingers as a grin plastered on her face. "I had to make it plausible so that the amount I receive doubles. Not that I was lying."

Vanitas eyed her in disbelief. Her tactics changed, resulting in an even higher profit as time passed.

Y/n had arrived late to the ball, and her uneven breath gave away that she had hurried to the location. She stood in one of the stalls and scanned the ballroom, expecting to catch a glimpse of familiarity. Considering this was a masquerade ball, that would be difficult. She had planned to talk to someone new only if they gave her a 'potential customer' feeling. Just then, she heard a loud clang from the side, making her shift her focus toward the source. She gaped in surprise when she saw Vanitas, in a pirate costume, standing on the chandelier.

He looked good—

"Your attention, Vampires!" He announced, attracting the eyes of everyone in the room. "I am an average human being who inherited the name and the book of Vanitas from the vampire of the blue moon! My name is Vanitas!"

The crowd began to buzz loudly as Vanitas continued with his claim. Finally, he displayed the mark of the blue moon kin, causing rage amongst the present vampires, even more so when he revealed the grimoire.

Y/n's eyes clicked towards the entrance, seeing a woman with a black mask enter the hall. It was Lady Veronica. "Oh, that man's done for..."

The Dham immediately darted forward, grabbing Vanitas by the waist and disappearing from the audience's sights.

"Damn it, Vanitas. If I were even a second late—" Y/n groaned and dropped the male on the ground, swinging her arms from the workout— not that carrying him was difficult.

"Haha, being carried by a girl is surprisingly thrilling!"

"We'll need to leave now before Lady Veronica finds you again. Everyone's most likely on a hunt as we speak, so get up." The female felt her eyes twitch at his lacking sense of danger. She bent down, placing her hands around his arm in a gesture for him to get up. "God, I can't believe I did that; what if Lady Veronica saw me—"

She had already pulled down her mask, which hung around her neck. Vanitas eyed her smugly as he stood up, earning a questioning look from the female.

"Are you in love with me!?"
