Izumi wakes up in the hospital next, machines beeping, tubes and cords everywhere. It's warm, much different from the intense cold before. She doesn't know if she likes it or not and is half tempted to just close her eyes again but she can spot a familiar green fluff.
"Izuku? What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be prepping for high school entrance exams?" Izumi asks, her voice coming out smoother than she thought it would have considering she probably inhaled a lot of water.
"Izumi! You're awake, I was worried." He looks up at her and gives her a teary smile.
"That doesn't answer my questions, 'Zuku." Izumi raises an eyebrow, trying to keep the boy from crying.
"Oh, well you've been out for a while... None of us knew if you were going to make it and I started coming by daily with homework or on breaks between uhh working out? Anyways, I was really worried because the doctors say some trauma-induced quirk manifestations can be dangerous and volatile-"
"I'm sorry, what?! What quirk??" Izumi lurches forward and gets dizzy, immediately slumping back into the bed, "I'm sorry for interrupting you Zuzu, but are you saying I have a quirk now?"
Midoriya sheepishly nods his head and runs a hand through his hair. He opens his mouth to speak but a skeleton-looking All Might walks in saying something about getting back to training but he trails off when he sees his pupil talking to a now conscious coma patient.
"Ah, All Might meet my best friend, Izumi Hirai. Izumi, this uhh, I was going to get to this... this is All Might in his weaker form because he got into a big battle with... Which then resulted in me running into him after a villain showed up... Offered to train me to get his quirk... Training to get into UA... I think that about sums it up, haha" Izuku rambles
"Cool, but before this Small Might interrupted" Izumi glares at All Might and he backs out of the room slowly with his hands up in surrender, "you were saying something about me having a quirk?"
"Oh, yes. According to the doctors you... jumping off that bridge triggered a quirk manifestation- something along the lines of water breathing but they haven't been able to test any specifics because you've been in a coma. Of course, they kept your body in good shape while you were out but they can only tell so much about your quirk without you awake to test it." He rubs the back of his neck, "They also had you on quirk suppressants for a bit because they were worried your quirk might act up."
"Oh." Izumi stares at the wall, feeling tired again.
This is what she wanted, right? To have a quirk? But her soulmate said she was useless, she'd never make it as a hero. Water breathing isn't exactly useful for hero work either but maybe there's more to it. She glances down at the words that cursed her, briefly wondering if the doctors connected her jumping and her soulmate's words.
No. He got what he wanted. She did take a swan dive. And gained a quirk. So she may as well treat this as a new chance at life- he doesn't matter anymore because she's reborn, reborn with a quirk. And Midoriya now has one too so Katsuki Bakugou can fuck off.
"So how much time passed...?" Izumi hesitantly asks, trying to flex her hands and mildly struggling.
"You... uhh, jumped in April. It's June now."
Izumi doesn't say anything in response, staring blankly at Midoriya and then the skeleton version of All Might.
"I'll help you get back on track for graduation, of course! And we'll get you back into shape as quickly as possible!" Midoriya squeaks, looking at his mentor for backup.
"Yes, since young Midoriya agreed to inherit my quirk he made it very clear that you be a part of everything, young Hirai. If you don't mind, I could have you train with him. He seems to focus better with you around if his quick homework and idle workouts while he's been spending time in your room prove anything."
Izumi nods blankly, still not fully processing everything.
