Lux will be the first to admit slamming the door in their faces was a bit of an overreaction.
Lux: Lulu.
She made the words come out calm and easy, but she could feel her palms go sweaty in the oven mitts she was still wearing.
Can’t forget about dinner.
She keep her white-knuckle grip on the front door handle as you watched her from the couch. You have no idea what had just happened other than hearing Lux open the door, before promptly shutting it. Lulu stopped her absent-minded twirl in the hallway, coming up to stand next to Lux. She took one more breath in and out before turning towards her.
Lux: Do you know why Ahri’s teammates are standing on the porch?
Y/N: Wait, what?
Lulu: Yep.
She drew herself up a little taller.
Lulu: You said, ‘This is a man-da-tory Star Guardian council meeting.’
You and Lux both looked at each other before looking back to the small Lulu. Lux instinctively released the door handle, as you heard Lulu do an extra bubbly, but very stern, Lux impression enunciating each of those syllables.
She definitely said that. To Jinx. Who still isn’t here yet.
Lulu headed for the handle, the smile on her face positively beaming.
Lulu: They’re Star Guardians, right?
You and Lux noddded dumbly.
Lulu: And they're Y/N's friends, right?
Another nod.
You have been trying to spend more time with them since the summer trip a few months ago. Still, this was a bit sudden.
Lulu: Super.
She then opened the door wide. The three of them were still standing on the porch where Lux had left them, although in decidedly different positions.
Ezreal looks like he was mid-sentence trying to calm down a much more annoyed Sarah Fortune. No, not ‘Sarah’, Lux reminded herself. Sarah’s for friends. She learned that all too well from last summer's outdoor adventure. Miss Fortune's usual smirk was now an angry grimace as she furiously texted something on her phone. Behind her, the quiet girl with mint green hair, Soraka, was carrying a bakery box from Pantheon’s Pastries.
They looked at you and Lux intently, probably wondering if she was going to slam the door again. She could actually hear crickets in the bushes. Lulu reached out into the uncomfortable silence and took Ezreal and Fortune by the wrists, pulling them inside. Fortune was so surprised, she just went along with it, nearly dropping her phone. Lux could feel the pink climb up her cheeks as Ezreal flashed his trademark grin in her direction as he passed by. She waved meekly with one oven mitt.
Soraka leaned in close to you and whispered in your ear, like a spy password.
Soraka: Cinnamon Rolls.
She smiled, handed the heavy bakery box to you, and walked quickly to catch up with the others.
Lulu: Welcome to our Star Guardian sleepover party!
☆
This was awkward. You could hear the second hand of the clock in the kitchen tick off another minute that you’ve been uncomfortably quiet. Ezreal was wedged on the small couch between Sarah, still texting on her phone, and Soraka, who was quietly watching Lulu while nibbling on a cinnamon roll. Janna and Poppy were sitting on the stiff dining chairs Lulu dragged in from the other room. Lulu was bent over the coffee table, folding a piece of paper into some complicated shape. You had no idea what she was making, but her soft humming was the only other sound besides the clock.
