The light from Lux's staff is infinitely better than a flashlight, but does nothing to calm her pounding heart. She stopped her run to get a better look at the map of the camp she's clenched in her other hand. Unfortunately, Lulu must have found someplace out of the way. You were well past the boundaries of the camp.
Y/N: There’s a clearing near here. A rock slide’s made it off limits to the rest of the camp.
Jinx: Sounds like a great place to welcome the new stars.
Jinx panted, more than a little winded from the growing elevation.
Jinx: Stupid cookies.
Poppy tightened her grip on her hammer.
Poppy: Let’s go.
The distance between the trees became greater, finally opening up to a full meadow. You took a deep breath. Jinx let out a low whistle.
It's beautiful. Just as you remembered.
A low fog had settled like a misty quilt over the area. Moonflowers trailed over tiny wild roses. Arcs of little blue flowers poked up and hung over the mist. White granite boulders caught the sliver of moonlight and dotted the dark meadow like a stony star field. Above, the meteor shower has just begun.
Y/N: This is....
You stopped when you noticed something out of place.
Sitting in the center of it all on a red and white checkered picnic blanket was your little green-haired Lulu. She even brought the oranges.
Janna: Oh, thank the First Star. She’s here.
A gentle breeze pushed some of the mist away as Janna stepped out from behind a tall pine next to you. She must have came up the opposite way from camp. Even she was a little out of breath.
Lulu: Y/N! Lux!
Lulu jumped up. Lux couldn't stop herself from running to her. She was running so hard, the ground shook. Wait, no...
Lux stopped running, but the ground was still shaking. A greenish black glow started to emanate like sickly veins beneath the mist. A vibration rumbled in time with the now pulsing glow.
Y/N: Lulu.
You could barely hear yourself over the deep growl of the moving rock beneath you.
Lulu: We’re not alone. New stars are coming, Y/N.
The innocence in Lulu's eyes had disappeared. She took your hand.
Lulu: I’ve seen them in my dreams.
Even though she was standing right next to you, her voice sounded so far away. Like she was still caught in that dream.
Lux, Jinx, Poppy, and Janna circled around the edge of the meadow. The earth heaved beneath your feet.
Y/N: Stay back!
The warning came too late. The cracks begin to break into deep fissures. The mist ruptured and a horde of black insects the size of dogs came crawling out, dripping an eerie green light.
Sword in hand, you reflected a beam of Starlight to the nearest creature. The light struck the creature beneath its winged carapace. It exploded in a disgusting burst of lucent green goo.
Y/N: By Starlight. They have wings.
You began to shout to the others.
Y/N: They have wings! We can’t let them reach the camp!
Jinx: Woo-hoo! Shiro. Kuro. Who’s feeling ferocious?!
Missiles started firing before she even finished her sentence.
