The basement is so dark and gloomy more so than the rest of the castle. My father is talking to the guard and everyone looks so calm like nothing is going on right now. "Father, what is happening?" "Oh, darling, it is just a really big storm. We are in no danger, we just want to be cautious." being only thirteen I believed his lie knowing nothing about the situation- I had no choice. After the "storm" was over I headed back up to the kitchen, grabbed a drink and moved on to my room. It seems so hot outside, unlike when a storm had passed so I was curious about the problem.
Night fell and I snuck outside to where the guards were placed and asked Richard. Richard has always been there for me and I know he can be trusted. "Richard what actually happened this evening I know it was not just a really big storm." "First off you should not be out here, what if it were daylight and two that is a story I will tell you when you turn 16 okay?" "Okay, but I will remember when I'm sixteen - so you must promise to tell me. Will you walk me to my room so father does not get angry with me again?" "Yes ma'am let us go and I promise I will tell you as soon as you turn 16."
After that night I was always sneaking around everywhere trying to find answers, the only thing I could find was some stupid old documents and cleaning supplies so instead of all the open places I decided to go into the basement to the bookshelf that I saw back when the "storm" happened. Nothing on that dusty old bookshelf had moved since then, except this one book with no title - What is the secret? Before I could even get it off the shelf I heard someone walking down the narrow stairs that creaked with every little movement.
"What are you doing down here Amber? Ms. Chopra asked me before walking towards the laundry room. "Nothing, just looking around for some old newspapers for my art project." "There should be some behind that basket over there. Take as many as you need and let me know if you need more I will go fetch some from the market downtown." "Okay, thank you so very much Ms." Running up the stairs and to my room I accidentally bump into Richard. "Excited for your birthday young lady?" "Not really I mean it's fourteen and nothing really good happens when you turn fourteen." "Well hopefully you have a delightful cake and beautiful decorations and most of all I hope you enjoy your gifts. I have gotten you one this year." "Thank you Richard and I will try to enjoy it the best I can. Will you be at my birthday dinner?" "I am not quite sure I will ask your father in the meantime, have fun with your little newspaper pile." "I hope to see you there have a blessed afternoon."
Hours pass by and my father has not once spoken to me this entire day. If I have to celebrate my birthday without my father again I will rain hell on him. Thirteen years and he can't even give me a single hug or send a letter, he is just gone away with whatever he wishes to leave me for. If you didn't know my mother died when I was eight everyone says it was because she was ill but I think my father did something to her after they had an argument over something stupid I suppose. After that day we have never been the same, dad always ignored me and I hardly ever talk to him or even try. I hope that someday this will all change and I can go back to being part of a happy family and maybe he will find someone almost as good as my mother was.
My mother was the kindest woman you could ever meet, even though she had a sole of sunshine her style was as dark as a shadow, beautiful like the moon shining across the water. She had dark hair the color of obsidian and eyes as green as the liveliest moss. My mother was amazing and I will never forget the time she put into me and father and the help she gave others who desperately needed it.
I remember the day she died, she lay sick in her bed so pale and dull her lifeless body as still as a porcelain doll, but what they did not mention was the marks across her neck and the faint bite marks almost as if she had been drained lifeless by a vampire - but they don't exist. I never got the chance to see my mothers body for the last time and I think they were trying to keep a secret from me.
