When a rabbit drags itself across an empty road, visibly injured, there's not too much cause for concern, Wednesday thinks. There are many things that could injure a small animal such as a rabbit. There's no reason to suspect anything supernatural whatsoever, even on the winding road to Nevermore Academy.
However, when said rabbit disappears in a passing blur, maybe there is a cause for concern.
Wednesday Addams had no room for concern in her mind. Not with her parents sending her to a boarding school full of outcasts "just like her". Not with her brother, Pugsley, being left alone to the bullies at his school like bait to a shark. Pugsley was perhaps the only person Wednesday could truly care for, though she would sooner be caught dead than admitting that.
As the car pulled up to the front of the school, Wednesday plotted all the ways she could kill her parents and make it look like an accident. Maybe if they were dead, the principal would take pity on her and let her have the year off.
They treated her as if filling a high school swimming pool with piranhas was an immoral decision, even though the victims had been bullying her brother relentlessly for months. Wednesday had never once regretted a vengeful act. This one was no different. Revenge was her best friend.
She traipsed behind her affectionate parents, scowling as her father held her mother's hand to his heart and kissed it every so often as they walked. She couldn't fathom loving someone so much. She didn't think she was able to do that, and she was appreciative of that thought. Love, like all emotions, made one weak. Her father was not half the villain he was before he met her mother. Wednesday had heard stories of his antics as a child, much like her own. He'd put spiders in his bullies' bags, and dug up graves just as often as she did. But love had dulled his edge.
Wednesday vowed to never let that happen to her. She had fallen in love with revenge. It kept her sharp, kept her sane. She needed nothing else.
A student was leaving Principal Weems' office when they arrived at the door. Her hair was short, maybe a few millimetres from the top of her head, and a big pendant hung from around her neck. Her eyes were an enchanting icy blue, Wednesday almost felt compelled to follow their every order.
It made her feel sick. She gave the orders.
"You must be the new student, Wednesday," she said, a polite smile colouring her face. "Bianca Barclay, class president."
Bianca held out a hand for Wednesday to shake. She did not. She simply regarded it with a look of indifference, and made her way into the office.
She heard her mother's frantic "I'm sorry about her" and her father's explanation. She paid no mind. She was not at this school to make friends. Hell, she wasn't even at this school of her own volition.
"Wednesday Addams," a British accent welcomed her. In front of her stood a tall, beautiful woman with white hair and a seemingly forced smile. "Morticia, Gomez."
So, she didn't like her parents. The thought almost made her smirk.
"Welcome to Nevermore Academy. We're so glad to have you here," she recited, brushing a stray lock of hair out of her face. She pushed a plastic pocket full of papers towards Wednesday. "This packet includes your classes, important dates, your dorm room, and so forth. Read through it. I'm sure your parents will be able to show you to your room, being a pair of our esteemed alumni."
"Indeed we will, Larissa," Morticia said slowly, purposefully. She always spoke like she was trying to prove a point.
The meeting spanned over the next ten minutes. Principal Weems introduced Wednesday to the rules and regulations of the school, warning her that she would be punished immediately for breaking any such rules. She told her about her classes, her teachers and what to expect workload-wise. She encouraged the young girl to join any extracurriculars she could, to help with gaining a few friends, or acquaintances at least.
