"What am I gonna do? What am I gonna do?" Enid wailed from her side of the room. She was pacing. It was nine o'clock at night, it was too late for the dramatics.

Plus, it was writing time.

"Enid. What is wrong with you?" She asked.

"I believe the term is 'what is wrong?'" Enid responded, giggling a bit.

"Not when it comes to you."

"Ouch," Enid feigned hurt, touching her hand to her heart and everything. "Yoko had to pull out of the Poe Cup, for 'personal reasons'. Which is such bullshit. She's never bailed on me before. Now I'm down a rower, and I know for a fact that none of the werewolves will help me out."

"Wait. You're a werewolf?" Wednesday asked, looking up from her typewriter for the first time.

Enid protracted her claws, and Wednesday stared at them in awe. "Yeah. Well as much as you can be without being able to turn."

Wednesday stood up from her chair, stepping towards Enid. "May I?" She asked, gesturing towards her claws. Enid nodded, gulping slightly. Wednesday took Enid's hand in hers, examining her claws. "Magnificent," she muttered.

Enid's face grew warm. She couldn't help it. "Thanks." She pulled her hand away. "Anyways. That's not what we're talking about."

"What were we talking about?"

"The Poe Cup! It's tomorrow and I'm missing a teammate." Enid said, exasperated.

"Oh."

She sighed heavily and collapsed onto her bed, speaking up at the ceiling. "The Poe Cup is like the most intense competition of the year. It even beats sports day! If I don't have another teammate, I have no chance of winning."

"Oh."

"And that'll make me even more of a laughing stock with the werewolves. They already make fun of me for not being able to turn," she huffed. "And it'll just give my mom another reason to be disappointed in me."

"Oh."

She sat up, staring directly at Wednesday's now turned back. "Is 'oh' really all you're going to say?"

"Yes."

"You're not even going to offer to be my teammate?"

"No."

"Please, Wednesday," Enid begged. "I'll literally do anything."

Wednesday turned around to face Enid. "You tempt me."

"I promise I will," Enid said, hopping off the bed and walking towards Wednesday's side of the room, pinky extended. "I pinky promise. You can't break a pinky promise."

Wednesday eyed the finger cautiously. Against her better judgement, she linked hers through it. "Fine. If I join this Poe Cup, you have to wear black for a full week."

Enid's eyebrows shot up, and her jaw dropped. "No way you just did that to me."

"Can't break a pinky promise right?"

*****

Enid was right, the Poe Cup was an extravagant event. Wednesday saw the entire school gathered around the lake, ready to watch the battle between the four competing teams.

While they were getting changed into their costumes - of which Wednesday was not informed before agreeing to this. Enid was just lucky they were black. - Enid filled Wednesday in on the rules. In summary, there were no rules. Everyone put everyone's life in danger until someone crossed the finish line.
