Flora Asterope isn't scared of death. It's not like she's welcoming it or anything but if she died tomorrow, she wouldn't really care. At least that was her mindset until reaping day.
To say Flora had a low sense of self-worth would be an understatement. Regardless of the love her stepfather and his sister had shown her over the years, Flora has an eternal battle within herself as to whether their love is pure. She blamed her mother; the woman left town after the birth of Flora's sister.
But when Flora actually finds herself in a situation where it is very likely that she'll meet her match with death, she knows she has to fight. If not for herself, then for her sister.
With the added challenge of her district partner refusing to work with her, Flora may have to face the dangers of the arena all alone unless...
