School. That shit place where you have to go until you are 18. Well my life is just plain boring, never knowing who my mum was had caused people to bully me. Saying that she left because I wasn't good enough.
I was minding my own business, walking down the hallway on my way to class when someone bumps into me. " watch where you are going shorty " he yells. I look up and see the school jerk, Jordan. Mumbling an apology, I quickly bend down and pick up my books. As I stand up he grabs my notebook out of my hand and begins to look through it. " Give it back please " I ask him.
" No ". Fine then if that's how its going to be, I quickly knee him in the crotch and then grab my notebook and scurry down the hall.
At home I go up to my room to get ready. Putting on a white t shirt and a pair of jeans, I make my way down to the kitchen to make a sandwich. Hearing the door unlock I know that my dad is home.
" Melody, where are you " dad yells. I look around seeing if he is nearby and then yell " in here ".
Slowly, he makes his way into the kitchen, with a sad look on his face. " Melody, I have some news. I have to leave for a few weeks and go to Ireland on a job the company has put me on. I know that you are graduating in a week and I'm really sorry that I cannot be there, but this job is very important, do you understand? ".
I just stare at him unable to form any words. Wow, he just said that very quickly making me feel like this is more than a simple job in Ireland. I nod not trusting my voice.
My dad comes strolling down the stairs with his bag in one hand and a pack of files in the other. Him leaving is making things all the more real, I really am alone in the world, with my mum gone and no friends to help me get through anything, and a father who is never there for me makes life harder.
" Ok well I am leaving now, I wish I could be here to see you graduate but I have an important job to do ". There he goes saying that it is an " important job ", again.
Then he hurry's out the door, never waiting for a goodbye.
