School has gone slow as usual. By the end of my second lesson I am ready to fall asleep on the desk I am that tired. The teacher is rambling on about the quadratic formula. I was never really one for maths. When the bell sounds I quickly gather up my items, shove then in my black satchel and make my way towards the benches at the far end of the school grounds.
Walking towards a free bench,I sit down and watch as the other students walk by. There lives are normal, I wonder what it is like to be them. To have a proper family, with a mother who is there for you and a dad who actually cares. Hearing laughter to my right, I look to see what is happening. Seeing a couple holding hands and looking up at each other, my thoughts begin to go to a different place. Will I ever be that happy? Will I ever be consumed with love that I cannot think straight? Will I ever have someone who will do anything to protect me?Gosh I am sounding like one of those girls who only care about what they look like and if they are wearing the newest fashion.
Reaching for my bag, I pull out an envelope. Whenever I overthink things I always read this one letter. The letter that my mum gave me the day she left. This letter reminds me that anyone who I have ever loved in my life has left me, even if it is for the right reasons, they left because of what they did before. Everything in the past always catches up with everyone, that's why I will never let anyone in as they could end up hurting me.
Opening the envelope, I pull out the letter. The paper has worn out over the years but I can still read the writing that is engraved on it.
My sweet Melody,
I am so sorry for leaving you. You must know that it was not an easy decision, but I did it for your safety. I have done some terrible things in my life and they are catching up to me, and I do not want you to be hurt because of it.
Just remember that I will love you no matter what my sweet little girl.
Always and forever
Mum x
Placing the letter back in the envelope I gently place it in my bag. Shaking my head, I stop the tears that threaten to spill. I will not shed anymore tears over this woman, she left me so she deserves nothing from me.
"Hey Melody, I heard that your dad left you again. How does it feel to know that nobody wants you?" James yells over at me. Picking up my bag, I decide to walk away. I cant be dealing with him now, I've got enough on my plate without having to worry about what he has to say.
Descending down the rubble path I head towards the forest beside the school. "Melody, you cannot get off that easily" he shouts.
Hearing footsteps behind me, I turn and see James chasing after me. I pick up my pace to try and get away from him, but I am not fast enough. He catches up to me and pushes me to the ground.
Blood starts to run down my hand from were I scraped it on the jagged rocks that live upon the forest floor. Growing angry I pull myself up from the rough terrain. Feeling a tingling sensation in my arms, I look down. Suddenly a blinding pain shoots through my head.
Grabbing my head I shut my eyes trying to stop the pain. My arms seen to have a mind of there own, when they lift themselves up and point towards James. When the pain abruptly stops, the tingling moves towards my hands. Just when I though everything was back to normal, a sparkling, bight blue liquid begins to shoot from my palms. The liquid travels across the perimeter and connects with James, and hits him in the stomach. The force has caused him to fly across the forest like a rag doll. Hitting a tree his body slumps to the ground knocking him out cold.
Finally the liquid stops, and I am in control of my body again. Falling to the ground, I sit on my knees and stare at my hands. What have I done? Im a freak.
As i was looking at my hands, a rustle sounds from one of the bushes that surround me. Looking to my left I see a man, not much older than me, looking my way. Pulling myself up from the ground I look around to see if there is anyone else nearby. Seeing no one else, I dart further into the forest. " Hey wait, I just want to talk" the man claimed. " Ye right, that's what serial killers say before they murder someone" I shout back. Why would I stop and talk to a stranger. Like my dad always said 'Don't trust anyone you don't know, as you don't know what their agenda is'. Even though he is not my favourite person in the world I am going to take his advise, I am not that stupid.
" I know what you can do. I can help you to control it" he adds. "Ye and what can I do?" I ask. Turning around I see how far he is behind me, but he is nowhere to be seen. Where is he? Looking around, I search for him. Maybe he has left, I mean what does he want with me?
Unexpectedly the man appears in front of me in a cloud of white dust. Stepping backward I go to run, but my foot catches on a stray branch on the floor. Landing on the ground I look up and see the man towering over me. "how did you do that?"I asked shocked. "Im a warlock and you are a witch. Thats why you can shoot water from your hands" he states. A what? He needs to go to a lunatic asylum, he must be out of his mind.
Taking a good look at him he looks to be around 6'2 with short, auburn brown hair. His bright emerald green eyes contrast with his slightly tanned skin. "You don't know anything about me" I ask him. " Well you are called Melody Stanton, your mother was called Piper swinnings and your father is called Patrick Halls. Your mother was a witch and your father was a warlock, your mother left your father and married Ben Stanton. Ben thinks that you are his, but he has this doubt in his head so that's why he is hardly ever here. Then your mother left because she didn't want to put you in danger. So ye I do know you" he remarked. "What" I said angrily. I didn't realise that tears were streaming down my face until a look of pity crossed his face. Bending down he looked me in the face and added " Look I'm sorry. From the look on your face it looks like your father never gave you the box. I mean you were meant to look at it when you turned 18, but it looks like he just didn't respect your mothers wishes".
I just stare at him shocked unable to form any words. What is my father keeping from me? And what box is he talking about?I better do some snooping when I get home, to see if he is telling the truth. Standing up I wipe off the dirt that has gathered on my jacket and turn to look at him. " Okay I'm going to go now, I mean I've got homework to do. Is there anyone I can call?" I ask. When a confused look overcomes his face I add " I mean from the psych ward that you escaped from. I don't want you to hurt yourself".
Laughter erupts from him. " Im not crazy, ill give you some time to think about it but you are going to have to face reality someday. Its you destiny" he states. Then he turns and walks away before saying " by the way I'm Jordan, and that guy wont remember a thing I handled it. Your welcome".
