Chapter 22

     Chandler ran over and started smacking a dead chicken on the ground to get Scrappa's attention.  It worked.  Scrappa let go of Robert's shirt, and swam toward Chandler with the chicken.  Robert got up and was led out of the arena by his mom.  Terri sent two other zoo staff members out to help Chandler end the show.  Terri looked at Robert, and Hugged him tighter than ever before.  He was still trying to calm his out of control breathing and his racing heart.  Terri told him, "It's okay now, just relax, and try to slow down your breathing a little bit at a time."  He listened to his mother and slowly started to get his breathing back to normal.  Terri called Wes over for a minute.  "Wes, I want to have Stacy, Kevin, and Oliva do the next show.  With what just happened, as soon as Chandler is done with this show, we're gonna get Robert home."  Wes nodded, and agreed that it would be better for them to go home after what Scrappa had pulled.  Wes said, "Don't worry about the next show, we'll handle everything here.  You guys take Robert home, check him out, make sure he's not hurt, and let him rest."  Terri nodded to Wes as Chandler walked through the door to where they were standing.  "Chandler, let's gather up some things at my office real quick, then we'll head home,"  Terri said. Chandler nodded, looked at Robert, and gave him a hand to get on his feet.  They headed to the Car as Terri ran to her office to get her paperwork.  Robert got in the car, Chandler got in the driver's seat, and they went to pick Terri up at the side entrance to the Zoo.  While waiting for Terri, Chandler got out his phone and called Bindi.  Bindi and Ruth were inside sitting on the couch watching Grace play with her toys and the dogs.  Bindi's phone rang, she grabbed it off the side table by the couch, and answered it.  "Hello Chandler?"  Chandler said, "Hey there's been a little accident."  Bindi replied in a concerned tone, "What happened?"  Ruth looked up from Grace playing and looked at Bindi with a look of confusion.  "We'll explain more when we get home, but to make a long story short, Scrappa attacked Robert during the show."  Bindi dropped her phone on the floor and sat on the couch shocked.  Ruth picked up the phone, and said, "Chandler, Bindi is frozen in shock. What did you tell her?"  Chandler told Ruth that they would explain everything when they got home, but in the meantime, she needed to hang up the phone and try to snap Bindi out of her state of shock.  Ruth did as Chandler told her.  Terri opened the car door and got in the front seat next to Chandler.  They immediately headed back to the Irwin family home.  Ruth tried everything to snap Bindi out of her shocked state but the only thing left for her to try was to throw water in her face.  Ruth ran to the kitchen, opened the cupboard where the glasses were kept, filled the glass with a little water, ran back into the living room, and threw the water in Bindi's face.  Bindi started to blink and cough after the water hit her face.  Ruth looked at Bindi with a look of concern written all over her face.  Bindi looked back at her with worry written on hers.  Ruth looked Bindi in the eyes and asked, "Bindi, what is it? What's wrong? Did something happen?"  Bindi couldn't find her voice for a second, so she nodded her head "yes" to all of Ruth's questions.  Ruth told Bindi, "Chandler said that they would explain everything when they got here. What is he talking about?"  Bindi waited a while, looked at Ruth and then said, "Chandler said that one of our crocs at the zoo, Scrappa, attacked Robert during the show at the Crocoseum."  Ruth's eyes widened in fright and worry started to pace through her eyes.  Her head was spinning with questions; was Robert alright?, did he get hurt?, and the biggest question of all was; why would God let this happen?  Chandler, Terri, and Robert tried to talk about what happened during the show as they drove home, but Chandler and Terri realized that Robert wasn't saying much about what had happened.  Robert's head was spinning with questions as well; why was Scrappa so fast?, why had it felt like his life flashed before his eyes?, and what would have happened if he had been killed?  Robert snapped out of his thoughts when Terri said, "Robert, we're home.  Let's get you inside and make sure you're not injured."  Robert got out of the car, and they all three walked toward the house.  Ruth had been frozen in place on the floor when Bindi told her Robert had been attacked.  She snapped out of her frozen state when she heard a car door slam shut.  She stood up and stood beside Bindi waiting to see if Robert was okay.  Chandler walked in the door first, he went straight to Bindi as Terri walked in the door with Robert right behind her.  Ruth stared at Robert as he stood there by the door with his eyes glued to the ground.  Robert didn't see Ruth staring at him.  She tried to hold herself back from running to hug him, but she failed.  She ran straight toward him and hugged him tightly.  Robert lifted his head, looked at Ruth hugging him, he smiled, and hugged her back.  Ruth let up on her tight embrace, stepped back and looked at Robert.  Ruth had tears in her eyes and she told Robert, "When Bindi told me what happened, I was so worried about you.  I thought you might've been killed.  I'm so glad you're okay."  Robert smiled at her as she told him.  He then looked at her, gave her a toothy grin, and said, "You're not gonna get rid of me that easily."  She smiled back at him as her tears fell.  He stepped over to her, put his arms around her, and hugged her as she had hugged him moments ago.  In this moment, they both felt like they were on top of the world and like they were the only ones in the room.  Terri cleared her throat but it was like they couldn't hear a thing, to them this moment was one special moment in time, their moment in time.
