Vanessa "I'm sorry.... could you repeat what you just said?"

Mary "Which bit? The bit where I said I would hurt them if they hurt Shay?"

Vanessa ".......say that again"

Mary looked at Vanessa confused, was she trying to play some game?"

Mary "I would hurt them if they hurt Shay"

Vanessa "Say that again but slower"

Mary "I would hurt them if they hurt Shay"

Vanessa "Say that again but this time as a sane person"

Mary "I really don't appreciate you acting like I've said something wrong"

Vanessa facepalmed immediately after hearing this.

Vanessa "There's just one teeny tiny small problem with your plan"

Mary "What?"

Vanessa "THAT'S A BIT FAR! I mean I get that he's your own blood and all but still... calm down girl"

Mary looked confused for a minute, eventually she started to laugh.

Mary "Oh dear, I knew that would be brought up, ok let me clear something up"

Mary stood up and cleared her voice.

Mary "Me and Shay are not related by blood, his father married my mother, on Shay and Adam is on his side, for my mothers side it's me, you can consider Shay my half brother if you will, a title in name only"

Vanessa "Oooooooook?"

Mary "If someone where to ever break Shay's heart I fully intent to hurt them, Shay is too pure for this world and I just want him to be happy"

Vanessa "You and me both"

Mary could tell Vanessa was getting really confused and worried.

Mary "Oh don't you worry, just because I some bias towards Shay does not mean I show distain or neglect towards my other family members, I love them all except for that Traitor Adam"

This time Vanessa was actually interested in something Mary had to say.

Vanessa "Why do you say he's a traitor?"

Mary "He left the family when he was 15, no reason whatsoever, it broke my mothers heart, dad was left in a rage and because I was the oldest, I suffered most of it, even when he wasn't trying to hurt me"

Vanessa could see Mary was starting to tear up a bit when saying this.

Mary "Sometimes he would get drunk and attempt to hurt Shay, I would often throw myself between them to protect them, did Adam even care about was happening at home? No.... he was out living his vampire fantasy"

Mary "Thankfully.... Dad went to rehab and soon enough was back to his old self, I'm glad it ended with him healing himself and not him leaving or getting arrested"

Vanessa "Was Adam leaving that much of an awful experience?"

Mary "He was the one who looked after all of us, he helped mom and dad with problems and the lot, and then he went away, not to help us but to indulge in a stupid fantasy"

Mary took a deep breath and went to go get herself a glass of water.

Mary "I didn't expect this, me sitting here and telling you all about Adam, all I know is that you work with him, he already knows this but the next time you see him, tell him he has no place in this family anymore"

Vanessa nodded but she had lost all the words to say, if what Mary was saying is true, then Adam really did abandon his family to play vampire, it was something she needed to bring up the next time she saw Adam.

It was at that point Shay and Kylie came into the living room, Kylie was a petite young woman with short brown hair, tied in a ponytail, she also had two moles under her left eye and was trembling in fright.

Shay "It took a lot of convincing to make Kylie come down from the tree, Jason scared her pretty badly, he's gone home now"

Mary "I'll go have a word with his parents... he's 15 and acting like this?, Kylie I'll take you home and explain everything to your parents"

Kylie nodded and went out the house along with Mary, leaving Shay and Vanessa by themselves.

Vanessa "So... your sister seems nice I guess"

Shay "Yeah she is! I'm lucky shes here for me"

Vanessa "How about you and Adam, what do you think of him"

Shay sheepishly sat down and took a sip of the water Mary had out.

Shay "It's weird.... I get that what he did was wrong but.... he's my brother, I still care about him after all"

Vanessa "Understandable"

Shay "You hang out with him a lot, what's he like?"

Vanessa "Hoo boy... he's definitely a stubborn bastard I'll give him that, but when he's part of a job then he's determined as hell to see it through to the end"

Shay "I see, does he ever mention.... me... or the others"

Vanessa "No... not really... the only time he's ever mentioned you is when he said he's not too keen on me seeing you"

Shay "Why? Does he think you like me or something?"

Shay then looked confused.

Shay "Wait.... do.... you like me?"

Vanessa didn't say anything, she merely walked over to Shay and kissed him on the lips.

It was the first time either have them had kissed anyone like that, when she finished Shay's face was glowing red.

Vanessa "Does that answer your question?"

Shay didn't say anything, he just awkward laughed and chugged down the cup of water before slowly retreating to his room.

Vanessa thought she had messed up until she got a text message from Shay.

"I Enjoyed that kiss, I'm feeling a little embarrassed at the moment, we'll talk  tommorow ok?"

Vanessa texted back that it was fine and was about to put her phone away until she got another message, it was from Adam that she needed to get to the local bar, there she would meet an informant who would tell her about her next mission.

She put her phone away and made her way out the house, not before texted Shay that she had left.

A FEW MINUTES LATER

Vanessa made her way to the local bar and found her informant, the person was someone she was not expecting at all.

Vanessa "Oh you gotta be shitting me"

It was Tendo, the man who's sister was dead because of Vanessa, the man who wanted Vanessa's life in return for Takaras, the air in the bar was awkward indeed, Vanessa shot an awkward smile at Tendo.

Vanessa "Uhhhhh Safety and peace Tendo......heh...."

Tendo "Your presence here deprives me of both. What do you want?"

Vanessa "Hoo boy here we go, well the Count asked me to-"

Tendo "--asked that you perform some menial task in a effort to redeem yourself, I will be accompanying you on this mission, I expect you to complete it without fail, I'll make sure of that"

Vanessa face palmed, this next mission was gonna be anything but fun.
