She spat words into the air
That swarmed like gnats above our heads
We waited for the air to clear
A sigh of tedium passed through parted lips
Once a breeze passed by and cleared the insect carcasses away
We tried again
A quick line of dialogue;
A momentary reply;
For an instant- a feeble melody and a quavering song
And then the gnats
They came again
Choking; stifling us
Until, once more, we were reduced to silence
Where the loudest cry
The wildest scream
was a sigh of tedium
Passing through parted lips
