Everyone at the Red Keep knows: anywhere the princess goes, she takes her pet wolf.

It only made quite obvious how alone princess Rhaenyra felt after cutting ties with the lady, now queen, Alicent. And guilty, the King felt the necessity of bringing lord Rickon Stark's oldest daughter, Y/N, to make the princess some company — that at first was totally against the idea.

But eventually Rhaenyra learned to open herself Lady Y/N, who always seemed intrigued about the princess and her valyrian culture. Your friendship became a distraction, an escapism mechanism to princess forget about her responsibilities. You went to dragonrides together, eat every meal together, study together... King Viserys rejoiced, his heir was finally happy.

But why no one cared about the northern lady's happiness? Besides the princess, Y/N Stark had no one. You left Winterfell alone and had no relatives in King's Landing. Your duty was bigger than your feelings, after all, being friends with the heir to the throne could higher your house's status. All you wanted to do was make your father proud.

Your time in the court wasn't so bad. Rhaenyra could be the realm's delight, but you were hers. The princess growned vey fond of you, and so did the staff around her. You enjoyed helping maesters and maids, showing how kind you were. That didn't seemed to please queen Alicent, who out of jealously, thought your acts were just acts. She wasn't happy that the king found someone to replace her in Rhaenyra's heart, and it was only worse when you turned out to be doing it really fine.

Months away from your family and the north, you were now a lady from the west coast. You got used to the heat and the bad humored people, but the capital never felt like home, until you met him.

The new member of the kingsguard, Ser Criston Cole. His dornish beauty certainly was the thing that got your attention, but he was different from anyone you had ever met. He was kind, and honest, and it didn't took much to realize how hard and quickly you had fell for him.

You thought that perhaps prince Aegon's name day celebration came in the right time. Rhaenyra hated the idea of leaving the castle's walls, but you convinced her that making contact with nature could be nice for both of you, specially since you missed home so much. That was before you wish you could have just stayed quiet that day, was long before the queen noticed your sinful glances and how you would bit your lip everytime you looked at ser Criston. It was long before she had you in her private tent, threatening your life and his.

"I am warning you, lady Y/N. If I suspect that something, anything, has happen between the two of you, I'll have him castrated and tortured for breaking his oath. And your reputation will be ruined, just like your house's." She threatened, sounding as menacing as she could be.

You were already sobbing at the idea of the love of your life being tortured. Vivid scenarios of his pretty body being destroyed, his lovely smile being ripped of his face, someone killing him, rounded your head. Dismissing you, queen Alicent couldn't care less about your panic.

Running out of her tent, you hopped on the back of a horse and rode away from the public eye, where you could be alone and desperate, unafraid — the middle of the forest. When you felt like you had no idea where you were, that's where you stopped.

You cried your heart out asking yourself how you let it come to this. He was your friend, someone you truly cared about, and you had let your disires for him display for everyone to see.

Immediately swallowing your sobs once you heard the sound of trotting horse. Someone clearly followed you, and you could only think thay queen Alicent had sent someone to kill you. Your little heart ached once you saw sir Criston's worried face.

"Lady Y/N! I came after you but I lost your sight." He came closer to you, your body instinctively gave a step back, "You... were crying. Are you hurt, my lady?"

My lady, he said. You only wish you could be his.

"No. No, I... I'm a little home sick, that's all." You tried your best shot at lying.

"I'm sorry to hear that. It's getting dark, Y/N." He pronounced your name softly. He was your friend, and saw no need to use your title. "May I escort you back to the camp?" He asked gently, taking your tiny hand in his gloved one.

You looked at him. You loved him so much it was painful, so you you came to the conclusion it was best to leave. Tomorrow you would be asking the king his permission to leave the capital and head back to Winterfell.

"Not yet." You asked, "Stay here with me a little bit."

And he did. The dark of the night took over the forest, and Ser Criston made a bonfire to light up the space and gave you his cloak to make you warm.

You chatted a bit, but it pleased you to listen to him. Criston talked about how he understood your feelings because he missed home too. You had never been to Dorne, but he talked about it like it was the greatest place in the seven kingdoms.

You both fell in comfortable silent. He was staring at you, grinning like the first time he saw you. You never understood why he smiled to a person he had never met before.

"Can I ask why were you crying? We both know you wouldn't run away because you feel homesick. We both know you're always homesick."

You smile sadly. He knew you so well. "Long short story, I am in love with someone."

He listened and nodded.

"Okay... And I guess you can't be with them?" He asked and you confirmed. "Why?"

"He took an oath. I was too selfish to realize how much my feelings could put him in danger."

"Oh. Is someone I know?" He frowned, wondering why you haven't told him about that.

You stayed silent. Criston took your hand in his and your eyes found his mesmerizing brown orbits.

"I feel like we have more in common then we think."

You stared at his lips. The bonfire crackling and the forest sounds created an atmosphere where only the two of you existed. For seconds you forgot who you were, but remembered who you loved. Your lips met his. Criston's hands found it's way to your cheeks, cupping your face in between. Your moves slowly synchronized, and you opened your mouth so he could make entrance with his tongue — which he did.

What started with a slow and sexy pace, later became an eager and harsh one. Criston's hands were all over your body, and you had to embrace the small amount of sanity left in yourself to break the kiss.

"Once we do this, there's no turning back." You whispered against his lips.

"I want you."

And he had you. Quickly and tired, you fell asleep in his arms under the stars.

You opened your eyes to the sunlight touching your face. You turned you head to see ser Criston staring at you, his beautiful smile taking part of his face. It felt like a dream coming true.

"Marry me." He muttered.

You frowned smiling.

"I've heard you say so many times how you loathe the lot of your position, that you are to be married off at your father's whim with no thought given to the yearning of your own heart." Criston took your chin between his thumb and his index, and you listened to every word he said.

"I'm asking you to come with me... away from all of this. Let us leave it all behind and see the world together. We'll be nameless and free... free to go where we like, to love as we like. In Essos you could marry me. A marriage for love. I love you, Y/N Stark."

You teared at his words. You loved him so much and it was so good to know he felt the same way about you.

You couldn't go back to the camp. Everyone would have noticed you're both gone by now, including queen Alicent. Even if it wasn't to put his life out of danger, you would have accepted his offer a million times. You deserved to be happy with the man you loved.

"I love you, ser Criston. I'd follow you anywhere." You pecked his lips in joy.

And you were happy.
