This chapter is dedicated to my friend (she's like the little sister I never had) book_girl1114 . Love you girl, I'll always be here for you.

1 year later

Kane's P.O.V.

"It's been two months since the officers left, you need to get out of this room." Madame Giry says as she stands beside me.

My journal is in my hands and it holds a letter to Erik for everyday we have been apart, along with a story for each day. His notes are now worn from being read a thousand times.

"I need to get him back." I say as I trace my fingers over his writing. Suddenly the journal is snatched out of my hands.

"Well your not going to get him back sitting here in this stuffy room. No, I have a plan." Madame says as she holds the journal. She pulls me over to the vanity and forces me down onto the stool.

I stare at my reflection as Madame violently brushes the rats out of my hair. My eyes are red with dark circles under them. My cheeks don't hold the bright red they used to.

Madame Giry pulls my hair into a tight bun. "You need to dress up, you must look like someone of great importance."

"Why?" I ask as she pulls at my hair again.

"You are going to get Erik back, dressed as someone important in his family. That is they only way they will release him to you." She says as she hands me a long dark blue dress.

I undress quickly and put on the dress. I look in the mirror as I straighten it out. "He will love this," I whisper as I skim my fingertips along the skirt. I pick up Erik's cloak and wrap it around my shoulders.

"Get going, the carriage is already waiting for you." Madame Giry says as she pushes me out the door.

I walk down the stairs, I hope this will work, I don't think I will be about to last much longer without him. The coachman helps me up into the carriage.

The drive to the asylum seemed to last forever and I get more and more nervous the longer it goes. Suddenly the carriage stops and my heart seems to stop with it.

La Bicetre is dark and rundown, vines grow up the side of the building. The place just has an eery feeling about it.

I slowly walk up to the door and open it. It creaks loudly.

"Hello?" I ask as step in.

"Madame!" A doctor exclaims, "You should not be here!"

I shake my head, "I am here to take a family member home, he has served his year here, it is time he returned." I try to say as confidently as possible.

The doctor sighs, "And his name?"

"Erik Destler." I answer.

He shakes his head, "He has not recovered yet."

"He has served his time, perhaps he would get better in a place that is not dark, dank and falling in around him." I snap.

The doctor takes a step back and nods, "I will take you to him."

I follow the man through the twists and turns of the building.

"I'll have you know, he has been a trouble. Tried to escape at least twelve times. He endured several punishments for them." He says as he walks.

I glare at the doctor, "Did you hurt him?"

"Not much." He shrugs.

My poor Erik, being punished just to return home. This is a wicked place.

He stops in front of a door, "Here we are... I warn everyone who goes in, he is violent and dangerous."

I shake my head, "Not to me."

He unlocks the door and opens it. I step in and glance around the room. It's dark with no windows. A cot sits against the far wall and on lays my Erik.

"Erik!" I exclaim and rush to him. He doesn't sit up, he barely even moves.
"Erik?" I ask, quieter now, slightly afraid of what's wrong.

He groans and his head lulls towards me. He looks like a ghost, his cheeks sunken in, his skin a pale gray.

"Kane?" He asks in a rasp.

"Oh Erik what happened? Have they been feeding you? You look horrid." I ask as I hold his face in my hands.

He shakes his head, "Not all that much..."

I nod, "Well it's time to go now. I'm going to get you out of here."

I take his hand a slowly help him sit up.

"Kane," he whispers, "Sit with me for a moment."

I sit down next to him, my hand still in his. "What is it? What's wrong?"

He stares at me for a moment, his eyes still the same as they had been a year ago. "Kane I-... I wanted to tell you this before they took me. I wasn't sure until after it happened that the feelings were returned. Kane, dearest, you have not left my mind since I got here. Your smile, your voice, your soft finger tips have haunted me in your absence. My dear Kane... I love you."

With that my heart swells, he brings my hand up to his lips and kisses it gently, staring up at me through his eyelashes.

"Dear god how I have missed you." I say as I wrap my arms around his broken figure. "Every night I would wake up from nightmares cold and alone, when I couldn't sleep I would write a story for you and at the end a letter about how much I missed you."

He pulls me flush with his chest, "I have gone mad," he whispers, "with no one here to help tame the melodies in my mind."

I look up at him, "I have been practicing, just as you taught me. I can sing now for you."

He shakes his head, "That no longer matters. Let us leave this place now."

I stand and help him up, he is weak and needs plenty of rest. This terrible place has destroyed him and I need to fix him.

The doctor leads us out. Erik rests some of his weight on me, unable to support himself on his own.

Once we are at the door the doctor turns to me, "Are you sure you want to take him? He is still unstable."

I glare at the Doctor, "He is perfectly stable, now move so we can leave."

The doctor moves at the acid in my voice. I help Erik out of the building and into the carriage.
