This chapter is in chronological order, little tidbit paragraphs of events that are the base of this AU but don't need a whole chapter of story to explain. Enjoy.

Monsters hunkered down in a mountain, their enemies laying just outside the only entrance in, a standstill, not a single person moves to either enter or leave the cave. Monsters didn't dare peak, fearing they would be hit by an attack and killed on the spot.
This war had raged for a decade, ultimately leading monsters up the mountain and into a cave system, the bulk of the monsters army was nestled deep in the wide tunnels healing, as those still fit to fight stood at the entrance inside, waiting for any possible attack from the humans.
No one really remembers what caused this war, at this point they didn't even care, they just focused on taking out their supposed enemy.
~~~
The humans guarded the entrance to the mountain, up it's side to the cave entrance where they saw the monsters retreat into.
The mages hard at work on finding a way to seal them in there for good and let them die off one by one.
A refugee settlement not to far off unknown to the military, on the other side of the mountain.
~~~
A curious lone child wonders the path up the mountain, barely 8 years of age. Kicking a ball that had been gifted to them by a solider that past through the village.
Kicking the ball to far the child takes chase only to end up falling down into the dark mountain tunnels. Landing on a soft bed of bright golden flowers unconscious.
~~~
A kind mother walking through the tunnels comes across the child and lifts them and takes them home, attending to their wounds and baking a sweet pie for them and their own child who stays by the humans side the whole time upon their awakening.
The mother discusses what to do with the king, it was to dangerous to return the child, even if they let the child leave the cave on their own the humans could think they kidnapped it and tried to use it as leverage. The child ends up having to stay, the mother adopts the child and gives it a life as best she can, an adopted sibling for her own child. Always playing and laughing.
~~~
No move was made on either faction, monsters' stayed in the mountain, humans remained outside keeping guard, abandoning the first camps closest to the mountain to favor higher ground and watch the entrance a few miles away.
Two children play tag, not watching where they are, deep in the tunnels only to exit out and into the abandoned camp sight the humans left. Taken aback, but curious they explore, the monster child hesitant and staying close to the human child as they explore.
A few soldiers returned for some supplies only to spot the two and attack the monster child as they rip the human child from it's grasp in a panic.
The soldiers leave the dying monster to return the human child to it's home.
The monster child crawls back into the cave, scared, hurt, worried.
Only to die in the arms of the king who was checking on his own soldiers, to see his son crawling back in the cave injured and dying.
He holds his dying son, in tears, swearing revenge on the humans in his mind.
~~~
The final straw. Monsters have kidnapped a human child.
They overstepped a hidden rule in this war. No human had ever taken a monster child from it's family.
The mages were ready to seal the monsters to good, the spell finished.
~~~
The king watched as a gas leaked into the cave entrance just as he lay his son to rest with his crying wife next to him. A panic flashes through the monsters, but before they can flee, they grow sleepy.
Passing out to only awaken feeling weak.
Discovering all their magic had been sealed away, leaving just enough to survive somehow and a barrier had been placed over the entrance to the mountain.
This was their new home.
The humans have forced their hand and ended the war by brute force.
~~~
Somewhere deep in the mountain. 7 pulses of pure magic ring out, lost to the darkness, not a one remembers where they lay, waiting.
