Chapter 1:

"Ugh I hate her so much! I can't believe she did this!" cried Sahana as she wiped at the extravagantly done make up on her face, which was now being mixed into a brown-ish goop thanks to the whipped cream.

"Sahana, are you okay?! You know she didn't mean it it was an accident. Sahana, open the door beta." Said Sahana's mom gently from the other side of the door, as she tried to soothe her daughter down from the mishap that had just occurred.

As if that was an accident, thought Sahana. Showing up in your underwear to school was more of an accident than what had just happened. Her older cousin had made it her life's mission humiliate her or make her feel inferior anytime they saw each other, and today was no different. It was her older brother, Chirag's, engagement party. He was finally about to be married to his high school sweetheart after completing his MBA and was about to start his own company along with his best friend soon in Delhi.

They had kept their relationship hush hush for so many years, as having a girlfriend or boyfriend in their Indian culture was frowned upon, especially if word got out to neighbours, who were always so incessantly nosy. So Chirag and his now fiancé Nandini, had created online profiles on a matrimonial site and made it match each other. Within no time they had their parents meet each other, convince them to get married and just today, Chirag and Nandini had their engagement.

It was so incredibly perfect, sighed Sahana who had always been a romantic at heart. She was so incredibly happy for Chirag because there was no one better suited for him than Nandini. They complemented each other like that song by Auburn, Perfect Two. Sahana always dreamed of finding her perfect half as well. But with the way things had been going, that day was clearly far away.

At 15 and still a bit slow at blossoming, Sahana had yet to lose her baby fat. Which was the cause of the incessant torment by her cousin, Falak. Falak, who had already transformed into a thin, beautiful woman with all the grace and poise desired in an indian woman, who had the boys chasing after her since she was 9. She wasted no time in putting Sahana down, making fun of her weight and her crazy curly hair, her insistence on wearing baggy clothes, while encouraging others around Sahana to do the same especially making sure Sahana knew she was the president of the Itty Bitty Titty Committee. It was as if Falak was the queen bitch while everyone else were her minions, she made sure Sahana was miserable at all times while making sure fingers were never pointed at Falak for instigating anything.

Today, as Sahana eyed the yummy looking chocolate vanilla checkered cake that awaited her, Falak "accidentally" pushed her into the neighbouring bowl of salad with whipped cream, causing Sahana to trip over on her beautiful new lengha, and ultimately landing her face into the bowl. It completely ruining her make up, which unfortunately was not waterproof.

Humiliated, Sahana had run from the scene straight to bathroom, tears brimming her eyes dangerously threatening to fall over.

"She did mean it mom, she always does this. I hate being around her. She just likes to make me look like a bumbling, accident prone idiot while she looks all graceful and innocent!"

"Look beta, just forget about it, it's in the past. Just come out I was going to talk to about this later tonight but I suppose right now is as good of a time as any." Reluctantly, Sahana made her way out of the bathroom and put her head in her mother's lap as she ran her fingers through Sahana's hair.

"Beta, how would you like it if we moved to Los Angeles. Now that your older brother is about to settle down, we're free to travel again."

Sahana peered at her mother with wide eyes, and pinched her self to make sure it wasn't a dream.

"Yes! Of course yes! I'd love to go, I just want to get away from this place, and away from Falak forever! Yes!"

"Great, we'll be leaving as soon as you're finished your semester here, and then we leave!"

Sahana finally cracked a smile as she thought about what lay ahead of her, her chance to finally start a new and get away from Falak and all the toxic people who followed her suit.
