Prologue
VOW OF PERPETUAL SLEEP
"DO YOU really wish to offer this child to the Vow of Perpetual Sleep in the Dream World?" inquired by the Lull Sisters speaking in unison.
It seems like a question but it was a ritual as old as time that needs to be spoken every time a child of Fae and Human is offered to be the Dreamweaver.
King Faenor of Faery Realm had to reply as bound by the tradition, "I offer this child of mine to the Dream World holding the Two Worlds in Order. To have him guided and guarded by the Lull Sisters and the Hush Brothers in perpetual sleep spinning the Dream Wheel. These words I express with my heart and mind in union that keeps the Chaos at bay for always."
He sighed in grief handing his son to the Hush Brothers and Lull Sisters to be cared for in eternity. This leaves him no choice but to scar his human lover Tessa for life, separating her from their child or have her suffer the wrath of his wife, Queen Faenal.
He made one final look at his son whose blue and green eyes stared at him innocently, not knowing the fate that awaits him from that point on. The king felt a knot in his heart as he watched them wrapped his child with a plain silk cloth and tucked away the bejeweled royal robes he covered him with earlier. They could put him in rags but the symbol hovering in the child's head cannot deny his true lineage.
King Faenor turned his back afterwards, signaling the confirmation of the offering. The King of Faes walked in the opposite direction with the Hush Brothers and Lull Sisters, down in the Sundering Valley that separates the Faery Realm and the Dream World.
HE RETURNED to his Wife-Queen who was waiting for him in the throne room fashioned that day into a seat of Rose Quartz. The throne is under the whims of him and his wife whatever they feel at that time or any purpose they have in mind. He knew the Rose Quartz throne meant his wife was praying that their love for each other will be restored by the sacrifice he made just a few minutes ago.
Queen Faenal, her beautiful face was somber that day as she walked towards him and immediately looked at his arms to find the butterfly mark. The mark will confirm that the child was indeed given to the Dream World.
The Faery Queen gave a weary smile but she felt relieved seeing the mark. She knew it was difficult to part with a child, Fae or Human, but it had to be done or her wrath would flood the entire Faery Realm and slip through the other worlds.
King Faenor had to appease his wife but it entailed he had broken the heart of Tessa, mother to the child he gave up.
He kissed his Wife-Queen and whispered under his breath some kind of prayer that everything will be in order in his house and his realm for as long as always.
Queen Faenal beaming with happiness smiled at her Husband-King. She touched his face with love as old as the world was created.
The grass under their bare feet grew and flowers blossomed as if celebrating this renewed union between the royalties of the Faery Realm.
Iridescent birds flew over the throne. They perched there to sing the sweetest song for the King and Queen closing that hour in joyful music heard by all the inhabitants of the Faery world.
TESSA HAD BEEN knocking the castle doors in the Verdant Hills but no one seemed to hear her. She had been reaching for her lover, Faenor Eadrom, and wrote him several letters but she never received any response back.
Tessa informed him that their child had been missing for weeks now. She woke up in the wee hours of the morning and her baby was no longer in his cradle.
Faenor was said to be on a trip offshore and his servants could not give any definite time of his return.
Tessa already sought help from the townguards of Dreamville to search for their son and as days turned to weeks, the slimmer chance that they would find him.
She already lost a lot of sleep and during the day she had been asking around for anyone who might have seen her baby.
She woke up this morning holding and smelling the infant's blanket hoping to receive some vision of who might have taken him or where he was. She could only hear his cries and giggles while smelling his milky sweet scent.
Tessa got the gift of second sight by touching things but it was very weak. She was already tempted to ask help from her cousins living outside of Dreamville but she was too ashamed to do so. After her parents left their hometown and her maternal family's magical legacy, she got no nerve to seek what her mother declined in her younger years.
She tried consulting the wise women in town but all she heard from them was a warning of danger in her life if she would pursue the search. They keep telling her baby was of faekin that was why he was taken from her.
Tessa would not want to believe their claims but her instincts tell her there must be some truth to them. Faenor was a handsome rich young man she met when she went to college. But his mysterious countenance and odd gestures tell her he was not from this world.
But what her senses tell her did not stop her from having an affair with him. The moment their eyes met in the downtown park; the attraction was instantaneous. Faenor had that glow that turned her like a flower seeking the sunlight to bloom.
However, that beautiful man was not there to smile at her and offer his wise words for comfort. He was like a prince charming away from his lovely castle in the hills and was no hero that could save her.
Tessa decided to leave and went on to dig more information about Faeries in the library, hoping for anything there that could point her to her missing child.
