LAWLESS HEAVEN

"Being forgotten is the same as being dead. And I didn't want that to happen to us. I didn't want you to forget about me."
She followed his eyes through every word. Eli believed she understood.
They hoped to escape the Nadir and their chances were bleak. Bleaker than the wan moonlight which illuminated this sylvan scene, but the more Eli looked at her. He realized. It wasn't the moon lighting this vineyard. It was her.
And in this village gauntlet by trees, that sufficed. Eli steadied his rucksak and departed for the looming abyss.
She hymned. "Your footsteps running around in the darkness. They alone I will listen for in the night!"
Eli smiled. He thought. Everything I love gone be the end of me and who knew it.
