chapter 5: new chapters
~t呪術廻戦~
Sayuri woke in cream-colored walls and silence.
Curled in the pale bedding while the sun poured through the window, she feared moving. The lack of tension in the atmosphere around her caused a strange unease inside.
The Koki heir was used to slipping out in the early mornings and hiding from the tension of her own home. From her very first breath in the daylight until the moment her eyes fluttered shut in darkness, her body was tense. But escaping was not her priority for the first time in her life.
Sayuri sat up on the bed, dark hair messily falling around her. Running hands through the untamed mess, she stood silently. She was still deep in thought, unable to fully process that she was not at her childhood home in the Koki compound. It was still her first week living with Satoru Gojo and she had yet to receive a full night of deep sleep.
Laying in bed at night, she simmered in thoughts of the interview that would happen today. She would meet with the principal of Satoru's school and discuss whether she would be allowed on his premises.
Gojo chatted animatedly last night that it was a formality and a comfort to meet her before he filled out paperwork. He blabbed with a loud laugh that Yaga had already met with the elders and agreed to the situation a week before Gojo had even taken her to his home. But Sayuri was not used to everything being easy and without effort. She was steeling herself for disappointment and rejection.
Even in the Koki compound, the people of her clan were split about her existence. Her predecessor and previous heir to the Divine Curse of the Koki clan was not as cold and reclusive as her existence. The heir was violent and entitled with his every breath. He existed generations ago and lived through his birth rights as the Divine Heir. Not to lie and say that the previous heirs were saints and kind, but he changed the inner clan gaze that followed with the title.
Her existence used to be looked upon as a sword for the clan to rely on and the infant was celebrated at birth. Instead, she was faced with the reality that the elders wanted to control and watch her every movement. Faced with the fact that though some of the clansmen worshipped her father, they plotted the revenge of their families on her head.
The only comfort in her new environment was that she was used to people not liking her. Defending her place and her birthright was something she grew so accustomed to that she did not know anything else.
Rising from her bed, she folded the blankets and tried to make Gojo's guest bedroom as neat as she found it except for her suitcase in the corner of the room. Her dark inky strands plopped on the top of her head as she started pulling out clothes for her interview.
Satoru recommended something nice but breathable and it led her to believe there would be a physical portion to the event. The idea annoyed her because the verbal portion was already enough of an inconvenient thought in her mind. She understood the purpose of wanting to lay eyes on her before trusting her around students. Sayuri made the resolve that she would not sell herself or beg for acceptance.
Her spine curved for no one.
Walking through the large apartment, she crept toward Satoru's bedroom. Taking in how modern and surprisingly clean the apartment was, she was almost uncomfortable around the topic of encroaching on his space. She was sure Satoru enjoyed the privacy of his own space far before she got here. Otherwise, he would have already had a roommate and not a guest bedroom.
Sayuri pondered the idea of getting her own apartment but dreaded not knowing anything about acquiring one. Not only this, but the rules around her existence outside the Koki walls would more likely be more strict with such a thing. So she grimaced and simply admired the pretty countertops and visibly practically untouched furniture.
