I wake up to sunlight filtering onto my face through the mesh curtains covering my large windows.

A knock sounds outside of my door, and my two maids enter my room. "Good morning princess!" Marie and Mary smile brightly. They are my personal maids that I have grown up with and love like sisters. "Good morning." I say, solemnly.

They bring me my breakfast every morning, as I am not a morning person and wake up far too grumpy to fully get up for a while.

Today is the dreaded day I turn 18 and enter society with my coming of age ball. Suitors from different kingdoms are filling up the castle, with more and more entering every hour. They do not hold any chance at becoming my husband because, unbeknownst to them, I am soon to be engaged to Cassius Rogan, price of Tasmir and heir to the throne.

I am the one and only Selene Starborne, princess of Lyria; the most sought-out princess in the five kingdoms even before today. Many men pursue me but I want to get married to a man I fall in love with. Don't get me wrong, I do like Cassius, for we have known each other for years. He has developed romantic feelings for me which are one-sided. This does't matter because I am sure I will love him back one day.

I live in Selestine Castle, located in the capital of Lyria. Queen Selestine is my ancestor, known for her strength and wisdom that united Lyria. So much so, that I was named after her. I live with my parents and older brother who is soon to be king. He has been absent for months, for he is constantly traveling and learning how to soon manage a kingdom.

After I eat, I splash my face with water, brush my teeth, and comb out my long golden blonde hair. Marie and Mary help me tie up my corset and style my hair into a half -up half-down braid. The afternoon dress I choose to wear today is one of my favorite new dresses; light pink and strapless. I put on my slippers and spray some perfume. Lastly, I fasten on my gold earrings, gold heart locket necklace, bracelets, and place my small gold tiara onto my head.

I make sure to wear my locket everyday. It is my prized possession and holds a picture of my parents and my brother in it. I consider it as a piece of me.

Today I may as well be giving up my freedom.
