I was sitting on the steps to the human area while the kids were laying their video game. I was lost in my thoughts so I nearly jumped out of my skin when Jack put his hand on my shoulder. I looked over at him, letting out a breath I didn’t know I was holding, and offered him a smile. He gave a crooked smile back as he sat down next to me. I already know what he’s about to ask. “Hey, y/n? Everybody’s asking what the hell happened?”

“Wondering why it all went wrong?” I raised an eyebrow and turned my head to face him. He flushed a bit before nodding. I let out a sigh and turned back to staring at the wall. “Mama always said, ‘If you can’t say something nice then don’t say anything at all.’ I’ve got my side of the story and he’s got his side, too.” I let my head rest on his shoulder. I spoke softly, “So I ain’t gonna go and tell you what he did, but I’ll tell you what he didn’t do.” I could feel the raven haired boy looking at me. I could also feel another set of eyes on me. “What didn’t he do?”

“Treat me right. Put me first. Be a man of his word of stay home ‘cause he wanted to. Always fight for my love, hold on tight like it’s something he couldn’t stand to lose.” You could feel the tears start to prick your eyes. You shook your head softly, “The devil’s in the details, I won’t tell the hell that he put me through. All I know is in the end, it wasn’t what he did.”

Jacks arm came up and wrapped around my shoulder in a side hug. He gave a light squeeze. “No. It was what he didn’t do.” I gave a huff and sat up straight. My hands balled up and I rested them on my knees. I frowned and shook my head again. “I’m already halfway over him, and I ain’t taking time to turn around. So Imma take the high road, even though we both know I could run him outta this town.” I looked down at my hands. “Are you sure?” Jacks concerned voice came in a soft tone above my head. I nodded, “That’s all dirty laundry, and I don’t need to wear the truth.”

Jack let out a sigh before ruffling my hair. From the corner of my eye, I saw him glance over at something before looking back at me with a smile. “I know you haven’t met the right one yet, but I know when you do. He’ll treat you right, put you first, and be a man of his word. He might even stay home because he wanted to. I know he’ll always fight for your love, hold on to you like it’s something he can’t stand to lose.” He gave me another squeeze and I looked up at him with a small smile. “Thank you, Jack.”

He smiled and stood, lifting me with him with my hands in his. “Never a problem n/n. I’ll always be here when you need a friend. But right now I think the one you need is waiting for you.” I was confused at first until he looked over his shoulder, my eyes following and seeing Bulkhead standing and waiting patiently. A smile flowered on my face as he stepped forward and held out a servo. I climbed on and sat in his palm. My heart fluttered a bit as he smiled down to me.
