Chapter 8: Nostalgic Night
Fern drove fairly quickly, urging Lex to text Sam, telling him that he left already. On the way to Lex's home, he gave directions to the place, Fern following the directions without complaint, even as they took wrong turns on the way. At a particular turn, they were met with a red light. Fern turned towards the younger male who was staring straight ahead, even though his thoughts were plagued by Fern and Fern alone."I want to go out with you some time." Lex's head whipped in his direction. Fern smiled bright at him, his freckles almost glowing in the moonlight. Lex still didn't know how he could be so warm and cute in one moment and be devious and almost dominating the next. "That's if you want to."
"Sure, I'd like that." Lex gave his own small smile, wondering if it looked genuine enough and he hoped it showed how excited and open he was to the idea. The traffic light turned green, and Lex gestured with his hand for Fern to continue driving.
"Great. What about... tomorrow?" He grabbed Lex's hand, giving it a tight squeeze while he continued to drive along. "I'll pick you up?" And almost as if he had just realised what he did, he let go of Lex's hand as quickly as he'd grabbed a hold of it, smiling although a small blush spread across his cheeks and ears. "Sorry."
Lex grabbed his hand in turn, surprising the both of them. "It's okay. Tomorrow's great, by the way." He had on a small, shy smile, feeling Fern rub the back of his hand with his thumb. It wasn't long before the two reached Lex's front door. Lex reluctantly let go of Fern's hand, moving to open the door, but the thing was locked.
"Can you unlock the door?" He asked, not facing Fern.
"Lex, turn around." Fern said softly, a hand coming up to trace a finger along Lex's spine. Slowly, Lex turned towards Fern, a look of confusion on his face. Fern just smiled at his silent compliance, moving closer to the boy and putting a hand on his cheek. He kissed Lex, the younger boy responding almost immediately.
But all good things come to an end. "See you tomorrow." And the doors to the car were unlocked. Fern only smiled at Lex's flustered face, watching with a laugh as the boy stumbled (and almost tripped) out the car. He waved a hand outside of the window, watching as Lex fumbled with his keys before opening the door and disappearing inside.
Before the door was completely closed, Lex waved a final goodbye for the day. Fern found himself driving home with a large smile, occasional blushes spreading on his face each time he thought of the boy and how cute he thought he was.
