Garrett and Layla ran out of the office building. As soon as he turns the corner to exit he gets a glimpse of the herd alerted by the scream. While the dead shuffled, Garrett and Layla ran past the incoming horde as fast as they could. Outside the auto shop, Edgar and Chloe were outside in front of the auto shop defending the van. More undead started to flank from all sides. Considering that the incoming undead was in the couple dozen, it was still too much for the group to handle.
"Edgar! Chloe!" Garrett yelled. "Close the door!"
Edgar and Chloe ran inside the shop waiting desperately for Garrett and Layla, as more of the undead were closing in. Garrett pushed some of the undead on their way to the ground as Layla followed. The two sprinted inside the shop and were in the garage just by the skin of their teeth.
"We're fucked," Edgar pointed out.
"No shit," Garrett responded as he was catching his breath. "Are we able to get the van moving?"
"It works," Edgar said. "But only from here to that door given the current situation."
"What do we do?" Chloe panicked.
Garrett looks around the auto shop for a way out. The tire stacks lead to a window high above them. Garrett threw his backpack into the van and began climbing the tires.
"The hell're you doing?" Edgar yelled.
"Climbing," Garrett replied. "I gotta get that damn group off our ass. I'll distract them, and you drive out of here and come back for me."
"Wait for," Edgar said as Garrett was already out of the window. "-me. Goddamn it."
Garrett dropped from the window and onto a dumpster below. He stumbles on his feet and circles around the auto shop. Blocked by a chain-linked fence, Garrett tries to climb on a pipe leading to the roof. He rolls on the roof and reaches the edge of the building with a view of the horde in front of the auto shop.
"HEY!" Garrett yelled out. "OVER HERE! FRESH MEAT!"
A couple of loners saw Garrett as he yelled at them. "OVER HERE, MOTHERFUCKERS! THIS WAY!"
Garrett continued to catch the horde's attention, enough for the rest of the group to escape. The loners dragged themselves to the noise that was Garrett. The mini-van drove out safely, Grace rolled down the passenger window to see Garrett.
"GET OUT AND U-TURN BACK FOR ME!" Garrett yelled. "I'LL BE FINE!"
Grace gave a thumbs-up and the van drove out and down the road away from the auto shop. Garrett continued to get the attention of the loners, stomping his feet and taunting the horde. Garrett jumped to the next rooftop and his left foot missed a step in the gap and fell.
"Shit!" Garrett's heart dropped as he felt himself lose his balance. An arm grabbed him just before his descent. Turning back, he saw Edgard to his rescue. Edgar whistled as he looked over the edge.
"You good, man?" Edgar asked.
"I thought you were with the group," Garrett said, catching his breath. "That's why I distracted the loners."
"Chuck is on it," Edgar said. "He'll be back in a bit. So, what happened back there with the girls?"
Garrett looked at the horde of loners and then back to Edgar. "They had a run-in with the loners and Layla panicked."
