Chapter 1~ Pirates

Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire were intelligent children. Charming, Resourceful, pleasant facial features.

Violet the Inventor, Klaus the Researcher and Book-Reader, Sunny the Chef and chief biter, and infant Beatrice, who was just a baby, who spoke mostly in shrieks.

Currently, the Baudelaire children were in a predicament, which here means 'a bad situation'. The Baudelaires were currently trapped, on a ship, with pirates. Sunny Baudelaire, now 3 years old, was trying to chew through the metal bars that were keeping them in their cell, much like the time they were in prison in a vile village. Violet Baudelaire had her hair tied up with a ribbon, and to anyone that knew 17-year-old Violet Baudelaire, they would know this was her way of trying to come up with a solution to a problem. Much like how she once stopped herself and her brother from plummeting down a cliff in a caravan. Klaus Baudelaire, the only boy of the family, who was nearing 16, was holding baby Beatrice, and trying to remember helpful passages from his old friends Duncan and Isadora's commonplace notebooks, to see if he could remember a VFD-certified trick to get out of this cell.

When the Baudelaire children first entered this ship, they were tired, and hungry, and they needed a break. This ship seemed like a perfect place for that. How very wrong they were. They had been on this pirate ship for 4 months after they sailed away from the Island. They had no idea whether their names had been cleared (For framed murder, arson, stealing, and other assorted crimes), whether Mr. Poe (A vile banker) was still in charge of their money and them, or whether any of their enemies survived a fire they helped set in a hotel almost 3 years ago. The children barely even knew what month it was.

"Violet," said Klaus in a worried tone.

"What?" She answered.

"Do you feel at all like we're sinking?" Violet thought for a minute, then the boat shook and screaming could be heard from above.

"Abort! Abort! Abort!" Pirates were screaming from above the children. Violet picked up Beatrice, while Klaus picked up Sunny.

"Klaus? Sunny? I have an idea." Violet had that gleam in her eye, and Klaus, Sunny, and Beatrice knew they were safe.

"What's the plan V?" Sunny asked.

"Sunny, Klaus, remember how we got out of prison last time?"

"Of course, we broke open the wall with bread, but we didn't want to do that because that would flood the cell," Klaus answered.

"Well, this cell is going to be flooded anyway, I say we kick a hole in the boat, grab a piece of wood, because wood floats, and swim to the top."

"That sounds good. But what are we going to do after that?"

"I guess we'll find out. Our lives may be a series of unfortunate events, they may even be a series of confusing events, but we always find a way out." Sunny and Klaus nodded, knowing not to mess with their big sister. "Klaus, I'll go first, and I'll carry Beatrice, and I'll swim to the top quickly, seeing Bea can't swim, or hold her breath. Klaus, you can carry Sunny, make sure you grab a big board."

"Aye Aye Captain," said Sunny, smiling.

"Eegk" Bea shrieked, which roughly translates to 'let's do this! Violet and Klaus walked over to the boat wall, kicked open a hole the size of a human, they a piece of splintered wood, and Sunny and Bea, and they just started swimming.

Violet forced her eyes open in the harsh waters of the ocean, she could see Klaus and Sunny right behind her. Suddenly, a piece of the sinking ship started flying toward her, and everything went black. Screams. Darkness.
