Violet's Point of View

Ugh. What happened, and why is this girl on me? Her foot was in my face. I flipped her body off to the side, got up, and dusted off my black skinny jeans. Everything suddenly came back to me.

I don't dare to look back as I ran away from home. I thought I saw something in the sky, but didn't really think much of it. I don't know what happened next, but I remember two other girls before blacking out.

I instantly reached for my neck, the lace of the choker collar and the coolness of the pendant instantly calmed me.

Looking up, I saw that it was an asteroid, and by the looks of it, it had destroyed more than half of the city. If I hadn't known any better, I would've thought I was dead. But dead people can't feel physical pain, can they? The cuts on my arms had still hurt.

There was not a soul in sight. A lot of buildings had fallen, but when I looked closely, I saw an arm underneath all the rubble from half a block away.

There was another girl on the floor now, the one I had pushed off myself. She must've tripped over me while I was out cold. I could tell those three were breathing, alive. Before I could do anything, the blonde girl began to wake up. She stirred a bit before shooting straight up, as if she just had a nightmare.

"What? I swear I was walking on the streets. How did I end up on the floor?" the blonde girl said. She looked at her arms. "Why do I have so many cuts?"

She looked around, her eyes widen among seeing the asteroid. "Oh my god! What the heck happened?!" she panicked.

"Well as you can see, an asteroid managed to hit the Earth, destroy most of the town, and the only people who seem to be alive are us and those two girls over there on the pavement," I told her as if I were talking about the weather. I reached into my back pocket and put on my lace glovelets. They covered my forearms where most of my scratches were. I could see that the sleeves of my royal blue t-shirt and the knees of my jeans were ripped. My combat boots were okay though.

I offered Blondie a hand and pulled her up. I examined her to see that she wore a denim jacket over a high-low floral dress and tan wedge boots. She wasn't in rough shape despite the disaster. I looked over to see one of the girls in a leather jacket and biker boots slowly sit up. She looked up at the asteroid that lay behind her then observed her surroundings for a bit before standing. Once she acknowledged us, she came over with a calculating look on her face.

"Who are you? How did we survive?" she asked.

"Violet Benson, and I honestly have no clue. Must be the universe's idea."

"The what's?"

"The universe. I've come to terms with the fact that everything happens for a reason a long time ago." The girl I had shoved aside, the one in flannel, jeans, and brown moccasin boots, had gotten up and was listening to our conversation.

"So are you going to tell me your name?" I raised a brow at her.

"Drew Blaire," she said curtly.

"I'm Mallory Bowen, you guys can call me Mal," Blondie - I mean, Mal introduced herself.

"What about you, flannel?" I seem to snap her out of a thought.

"Um Daw-uh-hm Dawn. Dawn Powell," Dawn says looking down at her hands.

After observing our surroundings, Drew steps over to where we stand.

"We need to go. We can't stay here," Drew says.

"Yeah, but where exactly is there to go?" I glance back over at Drew after watching Mallory scream at the hand.

"AIDEN! Damn it," Dawn yells perking up.

"Who's Aiden?" I give her a confused glare.

"He- he's um, my ex. He survived and went to look for more people while I followed the smoke leading to this... I told him we would meet at some weird looking tree, I think," Dawn stands up and looks around. She gestures for us to follow her.

"C'mon, he or she is dead. Let's go," I pull Mallory away from the rubble and watch as Drew makes a spear with a large stick.

"Really?" I ask sarcastically.

"You never know," she glares back and begins walking.

This is going to be lovely.
