I sighed looking in the mirror at my outfit tiny skirt and a button down shirt tucked in I was nervous too alex knocked on my door leaving against te door frame buttoning his sleeve he looked nice at least
"Ready for this" he spoke quietly I just nodded
I popped open the umbrella holding it over us as alex struggled to lock this stupid door we ran to the car slamming the doors shut looking at the down pour of rain on the windshield it was freezing out
"Do you want the heat" he said and again I nodded
The feeling of warm air blowing on me felt nice alex rubbed his hands together before pulling into the busy Miami streets on such a crappy day their was tons of traffic I was quiet intently staring at alex watching his movements his hands gripped to the steering wheel his Rolex watch showing a little from his sleeve
He watched the road closely taking the detour the cops were directing their was a big accident it made me sigh only brining back bad memories my head hit the headrest closing my eyes taking in deep sharp breaths when I peeked my eyes open alex kept looking at me and at the road worried typical alex
Driving around the detour finally getting back to the highway he followed the signs until he saw Miami county court next left he pulled into the big parking lot driving around until he found a spot
The sound of car doors slamming and heels clacking on the concrete filled my ears alex grabbed my hand guiding me up the stairs of the courthouse inside I had the wet umbrella in my hands giving that and my jacket to the lady behind the desk and so did alex so he was just left on his maroon button down shirt and a bow tie
They led us to a bench outside an office we sat their quietly silent not looking at each other just thoughts racing though my mind
"Victoria Alexander" someone spoke our heads popped up looking at her "you may enter the court room"
We slowly stood to our feet walking through the wooden doors when we got inside their were nothing but benches and a big stage with a podium on it that's where the judge sat people I've never seen sat on the benches quiet or whispering to the person next to them
The lady that called us in brought us to the front bench right behind the gate where their was a desk and two chairs a loud slam of doors was heard thorough out the courtroom cops standing around the room
"Good morning ladies and gentlemen Calling the case of the people of the state of Florida verses Carter are both sides ready?" The judge spoke
"Ready for the people your honor" the district attorney said
"Ready for the defense your honor" the public defender said
It was quiet for a Moment when s door next to the judges podium opened a cop walked out and behind him the familiar face brown curly hair his eyes without the sparkle in them he looked up scanning the room sad vulnerable dressed in orange cuffs around his hands the boy I missed more than anything Carter
The cop walked him over to his side which was right in front of me and alex once he was seated they began again
"Your honor ladies and gentlemen of the jury the defendant has been charged with many offenses 2004 Carter broke into the city's bank armed with no mask on stealing over 2 million dollars 2005 he was charged with 2 murders along with robert villanuevea 2006 a car jack leavin a mother and her 2 children in jeprody also 2006 car theft many speeding tickets"
Carter sat in front of me with his cuffed hand on his face running though his hair he would look at me and it was just sad I was so unaware of half of these things he has done
"2007 you checked yourself into rehab for your drug addiction then you were sentenced to 6 months in prison for the making of meth cocaine and marijuana you've been to jail twice the evidence i present to you will prove that the defendant is guilty as charged" the public attorney said taking her seat
I looked at alex who gave me sympathetic eyes knowing all these things he's done he felt so guilty and bad that he was their for all of it and he never once tried o stop it he believed that if he stopped him sooner he wouldn't be in this big mess
I was in a state of mind that I couldn't even listen to what his lawyer was saying I was processing all this information on Carter when he said I didn't know a lot about him he wasn't kidding he never came off violent like he was all along he's a murder Gang banger it scared me for a moment in time but it didn't bother me no more I wished nothing more to be back in our first night of Vegas where he slapped me so hard I cried
Alex was listing hard to every word anyone was saying he was trying to do figures in his head about what was going on staring at carters jumpsuit reading it over and over again
Miami federal prison in big black bold letters you couldn't miss it i could just imagine what his face was like know the thoughts running through his head"I do" alex said being seated at the witness stand
"Please state your first and last name"
"Alexander constancio" he said folding his hands into his lap
"And spell it for the record"
"C-o-n-s-t-a-n-c-i-o"
"How long have you known Carter"
"Since I was 13"
"Do you believe carters good at heart"
"I do"
"Do you believe he commuted the crimes he did"
"No ma'am"
"Thank you I have no further questions"
"The witness is excused" the judge said
Carters head popped up when they asked alex if he was good at heart his reaction was almost like he couldn't believe alex would say that Carter knows that he knows he's good at heart because Austin's still in their somewhere
Alex walked back to his seat fixing his brown locks as he did so I kept my eyes glued on my hands zoning out in what they were saying
"We find the defendant guilty 2 1/2 years in a federal prison" the judge said and my head snapped up she banged her gavel on her desk
"Thank you court is adjourned"
The last thing he said to me was he's sorry that's all he could say he wanted to cry and so did I watching him be dragged behind those doors for 2 1/2 years was torture I didn't get to say a goodbye I didn't get a hug I only knew he was sorry because he yelled it behind the doors when they were almost shut I wanted nothing more then to run back their and take him into my arms but I couldn't
Alex stopped me from doing some pretty stupid stuff that day the image of Carter walking to the chair in his jumpsuit sad tired alone vulnerable still haunted my mind
