Unleashed,Chapter 5,
Worst Night Ever,
I grumbled under my breath. What was I thinking!? In the forest, at God knows what time, and I'm fucking lost!!! I gave a small scream of frustration and hit a tree.
I froze and slowly clutched my fist to my chest. "Now that was stupid!" I wheezed, shaking my hand. I looked around to try to get a sense of direction. I turned in a circle, and then chose a random direction and walked that way. And away we go.
I pulled my hoodie closer to me and shivered. The rip in my sweats didn't exactly help keep the heat in. I'm glad I dropped Dwight's crap earlier, the milk was cold against my leg. Screw his milk.
I called out as I felt all the air in my body shoot to my head. My head thud against the ground as I tumbled down a hill hitting roots, sticks, and rocks on the way down. There was a splash as I reached the bottom. I groaned lowly and tried to sit up, my clothes weighted down by water, or mostly likely mud.
That was graceful.
I slowly stood up and tried to see where I was now. "Luck isn't my friend today." I have fallen into a creek or a ditch. A steep one. I put my hand on the ground and started to crawl up.
A twig snapped and I froze. I held my breath and looked around. When I heard and saw nothing in the dark, I started to move again. The dirt below one of my boots broke and I started to slide down again. I desperately clawed at the dirt. "Woah, daddy!"
I stopped moving and sighed. "We're good." I clutched another hand full of dirt and pulled my body up. I reached the top and flopped on my back, panting. I fist pumped the sky. We did it! I sat up and patted myself on the back.
A twig snapped nearby. My head whipped around, my eyes searching the trees. Rustling came from my left. I gasped and jumped off the ground, backing away. It's just an animal.
But maybe it's not...
It has to be.
Hmm.. fresh teenager, fresh meat. Delicious.
Stop. It's just the wind, the wind can't hurt us, we're fine. I stepped back and jumped as something touched my shoulder.
I shouted and turned around. A branch. Just a wood branch. I sighed grasping the mossy bark. We're okay. Just overreacting.
A thud echoed the trees. I jumped and turned around. Where'd that come from?
The depths of hell.
Thanks brain. I jumped as it thumped again. My breath caught in my throat.
We're dead.
Shut up! This is real life. Calm your shit, Cat. I squat down behind a tree. Mr. Douglas better be happy I'm doing squats.
THUMP
I gasped as it sounded closer. A creaking echoed loudly. My eyes widened. Shh trees creak right? Its normal. You're freaking yourself out.
But that was loud. More than a gently creak in a strong wind. AND THERE'S NO STRONG WIND, genius!
I gulped as I realised my brain was right. The sound of wood snapping sang in the trees, followed by a loud thud. I shrieked as the ground shook. I clutched the tree I was hiding next to.
When it stopped I stayed still, panting. When it was quiet, I moved away from my tree. What the hell was that?
Earthquake?
