John B had tried to think of a time when he was sick of hearing your laugh, but honestly, he came up blank. It was rare to see you so carefree and happy, especially with everything on your plate. It had been JJ's idea to come out on the boat for the day and the HMS Pogue was moving swiftly through the water.

Your friends joked that you had a sixth sense when it came to your boyfriend. If he was about to do something stupid without you there, a text or call interrupted whatever was supposed to happen. If he was sad, you were suddenly at his door with dinner and milkshakes. It was crazy, almost magic at some points. Therefore it was no surprise when you glanced back to see him staring at you like you put the stars in the night sky.

You were laying across the seats, embracing every second of the sun while you had the chance. It was a beautiful feeling, the wind in your hair and sun on your skin. Kiara's phone was playing music through the speaker she had brought along, truly setting the vibe for your boat ride.

"Y/N, dance with me!" She pulled your hand, tugging you out of your position to swing around the desk. You laughed at her energy and decided to satisfy her, at least for the time being. JJ, fed up of being left out, jumped in to join your shenanigans. The song skipped to I Wanna Get Better by Bleachers, making you shout in excitement as you started to sing along.

The moment things started getting out of hand involved JJ accidentally tipping the cooler over which sent ice and water everywhere. "JJ!" You screamed as the cold water ran over your feet. "Oh, my God, you dumbass! It's so cold!"

"Here, let me help you!" He replied sarcastically before crouching down to grab you and toss you over his shoulder. You yelled again, gripping onto his t-shirt for any bit of stability.

John B was watching the three of you carefully. "Hey, JJ, put her down. She's gonna get hurt."

"Aye, Y/N, tell your guard dog to can it!" Kiara joked as she shoved a handful of ice down JJ's back. The teen yelped at the cold temperature and moved forward away from it.

"Guys, I'm serious!" John B tried to stop you again, looking at Pope for help. The other boy shrugged in response, knowing flat out that you guys weren't stopping anytime soon, not when you were high on life.

JJ started spinning in circles as you closed your eyes to prevent yourself from throwing up at the pace he was going. Once you got JJ riled up, it was hard to make him stop.

"Shit!"

Somehow, you heard JJ over the chaotic music before his hands slipped from your body and you collided with the side of the boat. Your hand instantly shot to your head as you gasped in pain, the area instantly numb with the force of your hit.

"Y/N!" You blinked your eyes back into focus, seeing John B blocking the sun from your view as he hovered over you. He was practically straddling you, his one hand coming up to touch the back of your head where the most pain was radiating from. You hissed as he touched it lightly. "No blood, which is good. Are you okay?" He asked as his thumb rubbed your cheek.

"Headache," You mumbled as you closed your eyes again, the bright light not helping. John B didn't say anything else and sat down before pulling you into his lap.

JJ and Kiara both looked guilty, more so the former as he was the one who lost his grip. "Y/N, I'm so sorry," He apologized as he shoved his hands in his pocket.

"I told you guys to quit!" John B shouted at his friend, briefly apologizing when you winced at the loud noise. "I said to be careful and you weren't and now she's probably got a concussion!"

"John B, he said he was sorry!" Kiara defended as she put a hand on JJ's shoulder.

You groaned at their arguing. "John B, he's fine. JJ, it's okay, accidents happen and it's not your fault. Now can we please just go home so I can get some medicine?"

Mumbled agreements followed your request as the group spaced themselves out. You sighed, feeling the warm breeze once again as you kept your eyes closed. Honestly, it was a sight for sore eyes. John B was sitting up, his back against the boat as you sat in between his legs on the seat, practically koala-hugging him. Your feet were behind his back, arms loosely around his neck as you rested your head in the crook of his neck. His arms were holding you tightly, rubbing your back every now and then.

"Go easy on them," You mumbled quietly as you felt a wave of dizziness overwhelm you. "Yeah, I'm definitely concussed."

"Hence the reason I shouldn't go easy on them," He replied as he glanced down at you briefly. He was upset for many reasons, the biggest one being that JJ should've been more careful with his games. Any of the people on board could've gotten hurt, but it was you and in John B's mind, that was the worst case scenario.

You shook your head at his stubborn attitude as you fiddled with the ends of his bandana that rested around his neck. "They're our friends, bub. They mean well." You leaned up slightly to kiss the side of his jaw.

He sighed and cradled you closer, still worried about your head and concussion. The rest of the group was silent, Kiara having turned the music down since the vibe was killed. JJ was sending sorry looks from his spot behind the wheel, though they were ignored by the boy holding you.

It felt like hours to JJ before he finally docked the HMS Pogue. He winced, knowing he was going to have to tie the boat down right by where you were sitting. "Hey, John B, do you mind-"

"I'm sorry, you gave my girlfriend a concussion because you were being irresponsible. I'm not moving so you better figure it out, JJ."

With a huff, you pulled out of your boyfriend's embrace to slap his chest slightly. "Don't be an ass to him. Sorry, JJ." You took Kiara's outstretched hand and let her help you to your feet. John B rolled his eyes as he turned around to tie the boat down to the dock. The second he and JJ were done, John B was pulling you out of Kiara's grip and carrying you into the house.

You shook your head as he placed you down on his bed. "Seriously, bub. It's not their fault. You can't be mean to them," You attempted to reason as he scrambled around the room. He tossed one of his t-shirts at you for you to wear over your swimsuit for the time being.

"After I get you situated, it'll be fine, okay? We're going to have a nice loooong conversation about how if any of them hurt you again, it'll be their ass on the line, okay? Cool. Now just put the shirt on. I'm gonna grab an ice pack, medicine, and some water. Don't move."

You watched as he walked out of the room on a mission. Rolling your eyes, you pulled his t-shirt on, being careful as it went over your head. Glancing toward the door, you caught the eye of JJ who was watching you concerned. You knew he felt bad, but it really was an accident and you would be fine in a couple of days. You sent him a thumbs up and a smile in reassurance.

John B entered the room, handing you two painkillers and a bottle of water. He wrapped an ice pack up in a towel before closing the door to his room. "They're chilling out there for now, probably watching a movie," He explained as he threw his hat across the room and ran a hand through his messy hair. You watched him climb over your legs to sit on your right side.

"Here," He mumbled as he tugged on your shoulder, shifting around so you were laying on top of him with your head on his chest. He carefully held the ice pack to the back of your head, watching relief fill your face at the assistance of the cold.

You hugged him closer as he played with your hair. Talking to the others would have to wait for now, or at least until John B left you alone for two minutes so you could clear everything up with them, but with the laughter that came from outside the door and the peace and comfort surrounding the two of you, you knew everything would be okay soon.
