Sayori POV

"Mmphf..."

I rolled over in my bed. I never wanted to leave my cozy blue duvet, but today I seemed especially reluctant. Somehow I made it out of bed, but only because my stomach was grumbling for breakfast. I poured myself a bowl of cereal, eating in silence.

Ten minutes later, I was staring at my reflection. I was putting my usual red bow in my hair, but should I try something different?

What's the point? It's not like anyone would notice. Besides you don't know how to style hair. You don't know ANYTHING.

I sighed, those little voices were probably right. Besides, I was going to be late if I wasted anymore time.

I kept an eye out for MC, my neighbour and best friend for as long as I could remember, on my way to school, but I couldn't find him anywhere. We used to walk to school together all the time, but I guess he got impatient waiting for me as I overslept more and more since highschool started. It was kind of disappointing, but it was selfish of me to keep him waiting for me.

School was pretty uneventful until lunch time. My school has a big cafeteria, the most popular clubs such as the Debate Club, Student Council and the Drama Club to name a few sat on the tables in the middle, and clubs got less popular the further their table was from the middle. As you might've guessed, I sat on the very edge - where only the clubless people sat, with a few people who I wouldn't call friends, more acquaintances. Something was happening on the Debate Club table. I couldn't quite see, but then a very pretty girl with long brown hair in a ponytail stood up.

"...I'm sorry, I quit." Said Monika - Monika one of the most popular people in the whole school, not just because she was very high up in the pretigeous Debate Club, but also because she was beautiful, smart, athletic and very rich. My bisexual ass had always had a little crush on her since I first saw her, but she was way out of my league. I had also fancied MC a little, at least I might have a chance with him.

The whole room was staring as Monika made her way out of the cafeteria. Whispers spread from student to student.

"She's really brave isn't she?" I murmered, "Nobody leaves the Debate Club!"

"More like crazy!" The girl next to me muttered, "I wish I was as popular as her, and she's just throwing it all away!"

"Are you serious?" The guy on my other side exclaimed, "This is just a stunt she's pulling so she becomes more popular!"

"Don't say that!" I replied, "Monika wouldn't do that!"

"You say that like you know her!" The girl sneered, "Please, she's just starting some petty drama, it happens all the time in those clubs!"

She was true, there was always something going on in the popular clubs. But I was sure that Monika wasn't leaving for such petty reasons! She wouldn't! "You're just being mean!" I pouted, but jokingly. I didn't want to annoy anyone and swiftly changed the subject.

☆☆☆

About three days later I was passing through a corridor on the third floor. I was sick of not being in a club, clubless people were usually outcasts, but none fitted my interests. I suddenly stopped outside a clubroom which was pretty much empty. Apart from Monika.

Her head was on the desk, and at first I though she was napping, but instead she was playing with a biro. She looked super sad, I guess nobody wanted to wanted join her club after all...

Swallowing my nerves, I entered the room. She looked up, her fringe sticking up a little after all the time she had spent resting her head on the desk. She immediatly smoothed it down. Words failed me.

"Hello?" She asked.

"Hey!" I smiled, when I don't knnow what to say I normally just smile. It breaks the awkwardness pretty easily, "I'm Sayori."

"I'm Monika." She had stood up and approached me, and shook my hand.

"I know..." I said, then blushed. That was such a weird thing to say!

"Hah... yeah. Probably because of the Debate Club?" She sighed, tucking a stray peice of hair behind her ear.

I shook my head, "Well... I knew who you were before. You're pretty popular!"

"I suppose..." She smiled slightly, "It makes finding true friends hard though. Like this club, most people are just weirdos wanting to get more popular." She shuddered, "You're not a weirdo are you?"

"I'm a good weirdo! I promise!" I beamed at her. Inside however, I was freaking out. Having Monika smile at me... made me want to squeal like I was a little kid again.

"Is that so?" She smiled more and it looked geniune, "Well then... would you be interested in joining my club? I assume that's why you're here..."

"Oh! I would love to!" I gasped, then paused, "But I'm not sure what club this is... I just came in because you looked lonely..."

She tilted her head, "Aw, that's so sweet! It's a literature club."

"Cool..." I didn't know the first thing about literature, apart from occasionally writing a little poem or short story.

She laughed, "It's alright, I can tell you're not super into literature... that's ok!"

"I mean... I sometimes write poems, stuff like that." I replied, I didn't want Monika to think I wasn't interested in her club because I was.

"Same!" She looked thoughtful, "Perhaps when we get some more members we can write poems everyday and give feedback on them..."

"That's a great idea!" I exclaimed, "We should totally do that!"

She nodded, "Our first priority is finding new members though, once we find another member we can start doing that."

"Got it!" I smiled at her, and we shook hands. I was trembling with excitement, and couldn't wait to get started.
