Monika POV
I was first at the club, so I had a lot of free time wishing that Sayori was here and worrying about how to introduce the new member to the club, if even she turned up. I drummed my fingers on the desk, trying and failing to do some homework to pass the time. The thoughts were racing around my head and I couldn't slow them down and think rationally. If only Sayori was here to calm me down...
Just as I thought that, Sayori burst into the clubroom.
"Sayori!" I cried, rising from my slumped position, "I'm so nervous about the new member, aren't you?"
"Not really!" She giggled, "We just have to be nice to her, and you're great at that!"
I smiled, "Thanks, but it's not that simple." I sighed, "As president I need to-"
"President shmesident!" Sayori waved a hand and giggled.
"You seem really happy today Sayori," I chuckled, "I mean, more happy then usual..."
She nodded, "I'll tell you why, but you must promise to keep it a secret ok?" I nodded, and she giggled, bobbing up and down. She puffed up her cheeks and exhaled, "Ok...
"So I was with my friend MC and we were talking and I blurted out about liking him and now I'm his girlfriend! And he's my boyfriend!"
Girlfriend?
BOYFRIEND??
I was stunned. I swear, every thought just dissolved, leaving me feeling strangely hollow. The way Sayori seemed so pleased, and I wasn't? Why? She was my friend, I should be supportive to her, not whatever this feeling was. I forced a smile,
"I- wow Sayori! Well done!" I said weakly, "A boyfriend... wow!"
"I know right!" She whispered, "I mean... he said we would go on a few dates and if it was good then we would be official!" She giggled, "So that's why it had to be a secret. But I begged him to tell you because you're my best friend and we shouldn't keep secrets from each other!"
You're my best friend...best friend...best friend...
best friend...
best friend.
"Wow... I'm honoured..." I forced out the words and was still smiling. God, why was I feeling like this? I should be happy for her. But instead I just felt a cold numb feeling, as well as a desire to punch this MC.
Just then, the door openend, which put a stop to this awful situation. A purple haired head poked inside the room.
"H-hello? Is this the l-literature club?" The voice was a little lower than mine and Sayori's, but still quite pleasant.
"That's what it says on the door!" I smiled, "Come in!"
She entered. She was tall, taller than me, and her hair was almost as long as mine as well. It was brushed back, her bangs half covering her eyes, cowering a little. She seemed timid, the type of person who definately prefers her own company. She was clutching a dark book with an onimous eye on the cover.
"Um..." She raised the hand not holding the book to brush a peice of hair from her eyes, and I boticed they were a darker purple than her hair. She was quite pretty, or she would be if she didn't half hide her face. "D-do you like fantasy? Or h-horror?"
"Um-" I said, taken aback a little, "I like any type of book really, but my favourite I guess is romance."
"I like fantasy!" Sayori exclaimed. Her eye's lit up.
"I could introduce you to some of my favourite books. Do you like Annabelle Dupont?" Her timid demeanour had disappeared and a confident persona had taken it's place. She sounded proffesional, much more like a president.
"Who?" Sayori and I said in unison. I added on, "What's your name by the way?"
"Annabelle Dupont is my favourite author," She smiled, "And my name's Yuri."
"Nice to meet ya Yuri!" Sayori smiled, "I'm Sayori and this is Monika! She's the president!" She made it sound much better than it was.
"Nice to meet you." Yuri said and we responded back with "Nice to meet you too."
"I'll get the Annabelle Dupont book for you then?" She asked, then without waiting for an answer swept out of the clubroom.
"Do you like fantasy?" I asked.
"Um-" She gestured with her hands, "I watched Sailor Moon when I was little, and that's the same thing, right?"
We both laughed a little, "This Dupont... I think I've heard of her..." I said in between chuckles, "Apparently she writes really long complex books!" I laughed more at Sayori's shocked face.
"Ehhh!" She gasped, "I'm going to diee-!" She dragged the skin under her eyes and groaned dramatically, while I laughed.
"She seems interested though!" Sayori said after a bit.
"Yeah..." I replied. It was nice with me and Sayori, but a new member was beneficial for the club. And that was more important.
Yuri returned, clutching another book with her original one. This one was much thicker but didn't have the weird eye symbol.
"This is the first book of the series." She explained to Sayori, dumping the book into Sayori's arms "It's kind of self explanitory in the first few chapters, but if you have any questions you can ask me, ok?"
"Um-" Sayori said, staggering slightly under the weight, "Th-thanks."
Yuri turned to me, "What do you normally do? Is it just reading?"
"Ah..." I struggled to think of an answer, "Well, when it was me and Sayori our main focus was finsing new members, like you! But we agreed when we have a certain amount we could swap poems that we wrote the night before!"
Yuri nodded, "That sounds g-good." She seemed to slip a little into her shy personality. She pulled open her book, the one with the eye and sat at a desk. I was left bewildered, and, just like at the start of the meeting, with my thoughts, which weren't getting any less confusing.
At least we had a new member.
And... at least Sayori was happy.
