Akako woke up early, hoping she could spend the entire day with Fuwa Fuwa. He was also awake and had some convenience store food for breakfast in his arms.

"Good morning," she said, slowly pushing herself up from the ground.

"Good morning, birthday girl!" Fuwa Fuwa gave her a large smile. He gently dropped the food on the ground- everything was in a plastic container or wrapper.

There were two strawberry cream sandwiches, a green tea, berry juice, and a small cake with daises drawn all over. She smiled back at him, happy about how pretty the food was and how honestly nice it was going to be to spend the day with Fuwa Fuwa.

Her smile fell when he gave her the juice.

"I... I'm not a little kid, Fuwa..." she mumbled, staring down at the cute and kiddy juice box.

"You'll always be my kid-" He cut himself off.

Akako gaped a little. He was always like her father, but he had never called himself as such. She never said she was his daughter and he never said he was her dad, it was silent agreement. The fact it was said out loud on the last day she'd really be staying with him for was shocking and rather depressing.

"Yeah..." she quietly agreed, grabbing a sandwhich with a soft smile. She looked down while opened the plastic wrapper so he wouldn't see how she teared up. God, she was emotional. But it was kinda nice to care about something so important to her as Fuwa Fuwa.

They stopped at a hotel after they shopped for a suitable outfit to met the devil hunters with. Akako had already turned in a request the day before to the Public Safety Devil Hunters, hoping to join a special division. They reached out that night and requested her to meet with them.

A little voice made her wary of the hunters. She wondered if it was trick, to kill her and/or Fuwa Fuwa. She decided that she would ask him to hide out somewhere.

She took a shower, dryed her hair, and did a quick skincare routine. She put on a coffe and vanilla body spray.

She changed into the dress. It wasn't a ballgown, but it was pretty. It had puff sleeves and little daises, she chose it based off her birthday cake.

"Woo...!" she cheered as she walked out of the bathroom. Fuwa Fuwa was waiting for her on one of the chairs.

He smiled at her like a proud dad. She smiled back, but her thoughts in the back of her mind reminded her how soon these moments would end.

She tried to ignore them, choosing to just move on. She slid on some white heels she had got as well and went back into the bathroom to put on a little makeup and did her hair, taming her bangs.

She ran out after she finished her hair, smiling over at Fuwa Fuwa as she did a small twirl(carefully because she was wearing heels).

"You look great," Fuwa Fuwa said, tearing up and reaching out for a hug.

She hugged him back, making sure she memorized how it felt before she made her request.

"Can... While I'm meeting them, can you make sure to hide? Go far away- I don't care where you go. I want you to make sure you're safe, in case this is a trap," she asked him. She traced her gaze from his hair to his eyes. Telling herself: 'this is my father.' over and over again.

Fuwa Fuwa didn't seem surprised by it, just incredibly saddened. He looked away, but she wasn't sure where he was looking. Maybe he was looking in his memory, thinking about the last 15 years just like she was thinking about.

"I understand your suspicions. I... you know what a contract is, right?" he asked her, making eye contact again.

She nodded, nervous where he was going.

"I don't know the rules for it in devil hunting- if you're allowed to make contracts with full devils. I mean, you have one with you, though I have no idea what it is. But make a contract with me." He held out his pinky. She used to make him pinky-promise whenever he said he'll do something back when she was little. "Promise me that you'll take care of yourself and follow your sense of right and wrong. Make sure you grow close to other people- love is very important- and find a family there. I know some of them might die, you... you may even die, but enjoy their presence and company while you have it. Their eventual death will hit you so much harder, but having someone that if you lose your entire world will shift is a blessing. I never had that until I met you." He drew her in for a hug.

"And for your side-" She opened her mouth, about to point out how all of that was her side. "- No, that was all for me. I want you to do all those things. For your side, I'll merge with you. I'm not a strong devil, but I've made sure that I was powerful enough to make sure you'll be even more powerful if this ever did happen."

She stood there, her knees slightly shaking. She tighten her legs, not wanting to fall in heels. If he merged with her... would he be alive as well? Would she ever be able to talk to Fuwa Fuwa again?

Putting on mascara was a mistake as all the time she fought blinking was suddenly worthless. Tears, giant, salty tears that would leave her face irritated if she didn't wipe them off ran down her face. She knew her entire way of life was going to change on her 18th birthday, but not this much.

She remembered what he just said, how having someone would if they left changed your life was a blessing. Maybe it was, but that didn't mean the heavy feeling in her chest right where her heart was wasn't real.

"Wi- will I be able to see you again? Like even in a dreamy state. Like will you be apart of my conciseness or..." she asked him as quickly as she could. Suddenly, the clock was ticking faster, talking slower would've been wasting the short time she had with him.

"I don't know, Akako. But I know whatever is going to happen is going to be something we get to explore together. We'll be able to have these confusing moments where it feels like there's no further option yet also incomplete even past this day. I do hope we can talk." He wiped a mascara stained tear off her face. She noticed how his hand lingered. He was just as scared and upset about this as she was. It was comforting. Maybe they could find out the solutions together this way. Maybe it was just another part of life they got to see through together.

She hugged him as tight as she could. "Okay," she whispered.

And that was it. She watched with red eyes as Fuwa Fuwa slowly began to glow. She could feel a space in her heart being opened, a fresh and painful wound. It was overwhelming, but every second she hung onto what was left of the slowly disappearing Heart Devil she was certain she could survive.

The pain was gone and so was Fuwa Fuwa. The wound felt healed, but there was feeling of a second presence in her heart for a few seconds afterwards. It was fleating, but she knew that Fuwa Fuwa, the Heart Devil that took care of her since she was small, was with her. And he was going to be with her for the rest of her journey, they were going to experience the highs and lows of devil hunting as one.
