Aki and Akako stared at the tv. Neither of them had spoken a word together. Akako felt weird being near Aki, he seemed to be aware of his every movement as if a mistake was the end of the world for him. She wondered if something had happened to him in his past, but she didn't care.
The close contact did give her a chance to be able to figure out his aura.
There were two feelings she got from him. One felt like it was slowling eating away at her and everything around her. She knew this was the contract she had sensed when they had first met. The other felt rythmic and overpowering. She had no idea what it was as she hadn't been this close to someone besides Makima for a while
The tv was playing a black and white American drama from the 20s. Akako was originally annoyed with the quality and lack of color, but slowed began to get used to it as she enjoyed the other aspects of the show.
Aki got up half way through a scene with a boss kissing his secretary and a group of side characters gasping in shock because the boss had a wife and kids at home and yatta yatta. He seemed uncomfortable with the scene and excused himself to go to the bathroom.
Then it was just her for a few minutes.
But then she wasn't alone even though Aki was still using the restroom. A red eyed devil was poking at random things in the neat home. She didn't react until he started making noise, then she grabbed the devil by the back of their cloak.
"Be quiet. I'm watching a show." She didn't even look up, oddly entertained by the secretary and wife quarrelling on screen. She hadn't had these luxuries growing up, so being able to enjoy it for once inside a place where she would most probably call home soon was lovely.
The Mind Devil turned to their new master. They poutrd as they curled into a ball next to her.
"The old man didn't treat me like this..." it mumbled.
Akako didn't think before she replied. "The old man is dead."
The Mind Devil sat up immediately, mouth opening and closing as they struggled to find the right words.
"You should respect the dead!"
Akako shrugged. She didn't regret what she said, because she couldn't remember her grandfather. Nor did she care about watching her tongue with the Mind Devil. They acted too childish for her to see them as anything more than an infectious pest.
The Mind Devil frowned, their normal childish personality replaced with something more serious and their gaze held the knowledge of things humans weren't supposed to know.
She ignored it, beginning to watch the TV again. The Mind Devil didn't bother her for the rest of that day.

"They haven't shown up in a week..." she thought out loud. Akako was on her first solo mission. It was simple, just kill the Squirrel Devil that was eating all the food of a tiny village. She had been going on daily missions for a five weeks, using the dagger the Mind Devil had given her.
The Mind Devil hadn't contacted her frequently. Whenever she did find a way to talk to the devil literally in her mind, they would speak formally and almost patronizingly to her. She hated it, but atleast she understood the importance of getting along so she still tried to contact them.
She stopped trying after the last visit.
The Mind Devil began to critique her fighting style, something she had been learning since she was little. And then claimed whoever taught her would die of embarrassment if they saw her.
Fuwa Fuwa was the one who taught her. She immediately left the Mind Devil, passing out on her bed when she returned to the present.
"Miss? Miss!" A young boy ran up to her. He looked starved and scared, looking back behind him like something was following him.
Akako looked behind him. A giant, red squirrel was eating an animal too mutilated to know what it was. She felt sick, but focused on the scared little boy.
"That- that thing keeps eating our animals! It ate most of our vegggies too..." The little boy sobbed into her blazer. He looked like he was 7, but could've been older. It was hard to tell from his thin stature and small height.
"I'll take care of it." She told him. Only problem was, she had no idea what to do. She couldn't leave a little kid alone and she couldn't see any of the other villagers. She didn't see any human corspes around, so she knew they were most likely all hiding and had forgotten or abandoned the little boy.
She picked him up, deciding to ignore her current annoyance with the Mind Devil to be able to keep this little boy safe.
She took a deep breath, before focusing on her mind.
A lanky figure appeared in front of her, looking incredibly annoyed with Akako. She didn't care, she was more annoyed with them than they were with her.
"Deal with that." She pointed at the Squirrel Devil. The little boy nestled his head by her neck. She realized he was probably scared of the Mind Devil as well.
She didn't let the Mind Devil answer, wanting to get the little boy to a quiet area to be able to comfort him. She also needed to ask him some questions about what he had seen.
While she began to set off in search for a good place, she could hear the Mind Devil yelling profanties at her. Oh well, she was their master so they must do what she says.
