Story Time: Cat & Johnny
Part 4
Completely original by Briaa MarieNow, I'm not sucker, especially for love. My last dude gave me pure hell. He was everything I thought I wanted. He was educated working on his masters degree, had his own place, his own care, a job, no kids, and he wasn't a momma's boy. What he was thought, was a cheater and a manipulator. He made me feel like I meant the world to him all while giving the world to other women. He was never in love with me. He just didn't want any other man to have me. When I left that relationship I promised myself I would never get involved with a man who did not feel like I was enough for him. Hell, I didn't want another man at all. I was so broken and mad that my feelings and my time had been toyed with. With time I healed. Now, here's Johnny with all his baggage. Honestly, I want to run for the hills because I've been through enough. Everything is just starting to make sense in my life again and here he comes.
The movie ends, Johnny has fallen asleep on the couch. I cover him up with a blanket and go to my room. As I'm getting in bed my bedroom door opens it's him. "Damn Cat, you left me on the couch." I laugh. "You were asleep and snoring so I just left you there to sleep."
"Scoot over!" He gets in the bed with me. As soon as we shut our eyes, his phone starts ringing. It's a blocked call. He silences the call and puts the phone on the night stand. As soon as that call ends, the phone starts ringing again. He takes a deep breath, "I know it's Leah. I am not answering."
The phone continues to ring. "Answer it." I say.
He looks at me like he wants to throw the phone against the wall. "Hello?"
"Im dropping your son and all his shit off at my moms. You want him? Go get him!"
Leah hangs up. "I knew I shouldn't have answered. This girl is so dumb. Why would you drop my child off with a drug addict? Her mom hasn't seen him in months." Johnny grabs his hat and his pistol. I walk him to the door. "You good?" I ask because honestly I don't know what else to say. "Far from it." Johnny says as he kisses my lips and hugs me. "Let me know when you make it home." He nods his head and walks out the door.
Leah really is bad news she is going to the extreme to make Johnny miserable. It's sad actually that a woman doesn't know her worth or when to let go. I've been down and out, but I've never been so far out of my element to do such things for love, but I am nothing like her and she is nothing like me.
I call April to fill her in. Her and Troy are headed home from a date. They are always in their own little world. I think it's cute. "Girl, I'm just glad you're safe I just knew Troy was going to have to pull out that ski mask tonight and take Leah ass for a ride." We both laugh because Troy doesn't even speak on it. He is literally a full time security guard for us, whenever. "No everything was good until that phone call. He's headed to go pick up his son I told him to let me know when he makes it home."
"She is literally insane. I hope everything is okay." April says "Me too A, I'll talk to you tomorrow." We end the call.
I get back into bed and turn on the tv. My mind goes back to how I use to lay in bed waiting for my ex to come home from "working late". He always came in and ran straight to the shower. I guess he really thought I did not know what was going on. After it happened so many times, I was tired of digging for evidence, waiting until he was drunk to look through his phone, and especially faking sleep so he wouldn't want to have sex. I am so glad I was able to see my worth and move on, but this is not looking too good for Johnny either. It's a lot of baggage, and I am not the bag lady.
I decide to go have a glass of wine to ease my mind from all the thinking I've started doing.
Still no call from Johnny. I hope everything is okay and he was able to get his child. My step mother calls me. "Hello?" "Hey Cat! I know it's late. I figured you'd be up you little night owl." I laugh. "Yeah ma, I'm up. What's wrong?"
"Nothing is wrong just checking on you. Our schedules are out of sync. I've been working overtime at the hospital. I am here now just finally got a break. "Yeah I figured you were busy we kept missing each other. Things have been a little crazy for me. We need to do brunch soon to talk about it, or maybe we can.." "Sorry to cut you off Cat, I have to go. There's a child that was just brought in for severe blunt force trauma and he is critical. I have to go love you." She hangs up.
I take a big sip of wine, and decide to turn on some music. Suddenly, I am not sleepy anymore. "Oh I've been thinking of you.." The Isley Brothers always put me in a better mood.
The music stops. My phone is ringing. It's Johnny. As soon as I answer before I can say hello. Johnny screams into the phone "Cat! I didn't have anyone else to call! She killed him. She killed my baby!" I stop in my tracks. "Johnny calm down. Who? Who killed him? Where are you?"
"Leah. She killed him. I am going to kill her!" Johnny is crying harder.
"Johnny are you driving where are you?"
"Headed to the hospital. I can't breathe!"
I listen to Johnny sob into the phone.
I am speechless.
"Johnny I can meet you there. Which hospital?" I ask.
"Mission Memorial. Don't hang up." He pleads.
"I won't." I go into my room to get dressed, and I have such a sick feeling in my stomach.
I grab my purse, my pistol, and my keys and head out the door.
Johnny is still on the phone crying. He tells me that he has arrived at the hospital.
"I can't go in there." Johnny's voice is still trembling. I tell him I am only five minutes away. I don't know what to expect, and I still don't know what to say.
When I pull up, I get out of the car and walk up to Johnny's truck and open the door he falls in my arms. "He's all I have Cat. How could she do this to him? Why man? How could she do this?" He sobbed in my arms, and I let him. After a few minutes of consoling him, I lifted his head up and looked him in his eyes. I wiped what tears were left on his face. "Let's go inside Johnny, he needs you." I grab his hand and we head inside the hospital.
