Rosalie's POV

She didn't look at us. Not even a glance as she stalked up the stairs.

"Bella—"

"Not a word!" Bella snarled, spinning around to glare at us, pointing at Alice as she did. "I don't want to hear another word from either of you!"

She spun on her heel and I sunk further into the couch. Hiding my face in my hands, I trembled. What have we done?

"Just wait! Please!" Alice cried, hurrying after her. "It's not like that! I did it to protect you! Bella, wait! I—"

"To protect me?"

I glanced up between my fingers to see Alice gripping Bella's wrist while our older sister glared down at her.

"In what possible universe is lying going to protect me?" Bella ripped herself from Alice's grip. "You know how I feel about lying, but you did it anyway!"

"They were small lies!" Alice stepped closer and I wanted to yell at her. "Nothing like the ones Eliza told!"

How could she not see that it didn't matter the size of the lie to Bella? A lie was still a lie! After everything that bitch did to our sister, all lies were wrong.

Bella sucked in a deep, furious breath, but Alice forged on. "Edward only told you his opinion of it! It's not like that! We didn't tell you, because you're always saving us, and I wanted to save you for once!"

Bella pointed a furious finger at her. "Don't you fucking bring Edward into this. He's the only one who had the fucking guts to tell me in the first place!"

"He only told you because he wanted to spite me!"

"The fuck he did not!" Bella stepped down so she and Alice were on the same step. She got in our sister's face with a snarl she had never directed at us. "He told me because apparently that asshole has more respect for me than either of you do. He told me because he knew how I'd react. And I have the feeling he would have let you tell me yourselves, but since everyone is fucking against me, he had to do it himself."

"We're not against you!" Alice begged, her eyes glistening. "We've always been on your side! You've done everything for us, and I wanted to do something for you for once! I wanted to give you this! To give you a solution to a problem you didn't have to deal with by yourself!"

Panic clawed through my throat, and I wanted to rip Alice away, to cover her mouth before she could destroy this anymore than she already had. How could she not see that Bella hated us? How could she not hear the betrayal and complete disappointment in every breath Bella took? Our sister had given us everything, and we'd just broken her trust. And her heart.

"I'm sorry," I whispered, tears streaming down my face as I stared up at my sister. I swallowed around the lump in my throat and sucked in a shuddering breath. "I am so sorry, Bella. I didn't mean to hurt you."

She glanced at me and she looked so heartbroken, furious and betrayed I wanted to die. "Sorry doesn't change anything, Rosalie. I can't forgive you for this."

I couldn't breathe. Please. No. Tears streamed down my cheeks and as she turned away, I felt like my heart was torn from my chest.

Alice moaned, her shoulders curling and her hands trembling. "Please, Bella, no. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you. I just didn't want to lose you."

She reached out with shaky hands, but Bella stepped out of her reach. "You just did, Mary Alice."

With that, she disappeared up the stairs. The slam of her bedroom door was a knife to my heart and I broke completely.
