Inevitably, this led to Celia, Xavier, Wednesday, Ajax, Enid and Martha sitting in front of Principal Barlow in stony silence. The principal regarded them with an incredulous expression.

"You should all feel thoroughly ashamed of yourselves. You especially, Xavier, Wednesday, Ajax, Enid. You are several years older than Layla and her friends. If one of you would like to speak up and help me understand, it would be very much appreciated!"

Everyone sat in silence. The principal scoffed.

"Fine. You will all spend a week in detention. Starting tonight, you will all spend four hours from seven until eleven cleaning the school. It's lucky that Layla's parents decided to not press charges! This is a serious crime. You deserve the punishment."

Everyone got up to go to dinner, grumbling their complaints. As Celia and Xavier got to the door, the principal stopped them.

"Thorpe. Yes, both of you. Sit back down."

They sat back down.
Celia looked at Xavier. He'd given her his jacket before they reached the office, but many of their teachers and friends had been watching when Layla attacked Celia.

"Take off your brother's jacket. I must say, Celia, I am very disappointed in you. Regardless of the circumstances, abusing your already dangerous power was very irresponsible. However, I do not wish to cause either of you further harm. This detention will not go on your record and your parents need not find out. You may go."

Filled with relief, Celia thanked her and hurried out of the office. Waiting for Xavier outside was Ajax.

"Hey. You good?"

"Yeah. Sorry for getting you in trouble."

"No sweat. Xavier's my boy. Besides, the bitch had it coming."

Celia laughed. Behind Ajax, Martha watched her sadly.

"Oh. Martha, I'm really sorry for not telling you anything. I wasn't being a very good friend. And I'm sorry you are in trouble."

"It's fine. I could have made this angst-y but I literally can't be bothered. I mean, if I were you, I'd probably not tell people either."

Smiling, Celia hugged her. The door opened behind them. Xavier stepped out of the office.

"What did she want?"

"Nothing. Just told me off again."

Sure, Celia thought. That's definitely why you look like you're hiding something.

"Oh, and, there's another meeting tonight. If the normie cops won't fix this, we have to."

Without another word, Xavier walked towards dinner.

Ok, ok. This chapter sucks. Ik. It's cause I'm tired and need to move the story along but also can't because there's stuff I need to fill in, so I know I need to create another sub plot but that could extend the story even further. I'll keep trying and planning though.
